ARE WE PREPARED?

Luke 12: 39-48

The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time?” It will be good for that servant when the master finds him doing so when he returns. (NIV)

Luke 12:42-43

            Some days ago I was conversing with a Christian very dear to me. She commented that she needed to get rid of the rancor that was gnawing at her because of an argument she’d had in which she had been mistreated. Her words were, “I have to get this out of me, because if the Lord comes now he is going to find me heavy, and I need to go light on baggage.” This got me to thinking about the conditions in which we find ourselves to receive the Lord who can come at any time.

            The parable about the two servants teaches us that we need to be working when the Lord comes. Many believe he’ll come soon, and therefore they wait peacefully instead of working. Although we cannot set a date for his return, we should at least always be prepared for this moment.

            And as the young mother prepares herself to receive her baby, gathering things with the hope that her little one will use them, so should we too collect good works so that one day, when the moment comes, we can put them at his feet.

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, prepare our minds and hearts to be ready to receive you. May our lives as well as our works speak for us. Amen.

¿ESTAMOS PREPARADOS?

Lucas 12: 39-48

Y dijo el Señor: ¿Quién es el mayordomo fiel y prudente al cual su señor pondrá sobre su casa, para que a tiempo les dé su ración? Bienaventurado aquel siervo al cual, cuando su señor venga, le halle haciendo así.

Lucas 12:42-43

            Hace unos días conversaba con una cristiana muy querida para mí. Ella me comentaba que tenía que quitarse de dentro el rencor que le estaba royendo  por una discusión que había tenido en la que le habían maltratado. Sus palabras fueron: “Tengo que sacarme esto de dentro porque si el Señor viene ahora me va a encontrar pesada y yo tengo que ir ligera de equipaje”. Esto me hizo pensar en las condiciones en que nos encontramos para recibir al Señor, que puede llegar en cualquier momento.

            La parábola de los dos sirvientes nos enseña que debemos estar trabajando cuando venga el Señor. Muchos creen que el Señor viene pronto, y por tanto, esperan tranquilamente en lugar de  trabajar. Aunque no podamos fijar una fecha para su regreso, por lo menos debemos estar siempre preparados para este momento.

            Y como la joven madre se prepara para recibir a su bebé reuniendo cosas en la esperanza que las usará su pequeño, así nosotros debemos reunir buenas obras que algún día, cuando llegue el momento, podamos poner a sus pies.

 

Oración: Señor Jesús,  prepara nuestras mentes y corazones para estar listos a recibirte. Permite que tanto nuestra vida como nuestras obras hablen por nosotros. Amén.
