THE SACREDNESS OF OUR FEET

Mark 14:3-9

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace…!

Isaiah 52:7a (NIV)

            In these times when COVID-19 has unfortunately been present in our lives, we give a lot of attention to our hands—we wash them carefully and always have various kinds of disinfectants available within reach to be used in the face of all threats of infection. But today I ask you:  do we take care of our feet with such care?

            And it is feet that need our care, because they hold up our body and lead our steps.  Some texts in the New Testament speak to us of the symbolism and sacredness of feet. On the one hand there is a story of a woman who anointed the feet of Jesus at a dinner as a symbol of hospitality, dedication and respect for the teacher.  On the other hand, Jesus himself, at the last supper, washed the feet of his disciples as a gesture of humility and sincere love.

            Today’s invitation is to anoint our feet.  We should be conscious of the weight that they carry every day.  How can we relieve the weight and make our step lighter?  What paths do our feet take every day?  Are they the paths of God or are they our own sidewalks?  What footprints are we going to leave on this path of life?

 

Prayer: Today we want to recognize the sacredness of your feet, our good Jesus, you who walked the paths of justice, solidarity, love and peace.  We want to anoint your feet with an authentic testimony.  Guide our steps so that we will never deviate from your path.  Amen.

LA SACRALIDAD DE NUESTROS PIES

Marcos 14:3-9

¡Qué hermosos son, sobre los montes, los pies del que trae buenas nuevas; del que proclama la paz…!

Isaías 52:7a

            En estos tiempos donde desgraciadamente la Covid 19, ha estado presente en nuestras vidas, prestamos mucha atención a nuestras manos, las lavamos cuidadosamente, siempre tenemos a nuestro alcance distintos tipos de desinfectantes que se han hecho cotidianos ante tal amenaza. Pero hoy les pregunto: ¿cuidamos nuestros pies con tanto esmero?

            Y es que los pies necesitan de nuestro cuidado, pues sostienen nuestro cuerpo y conducen nuestros pasos. Algunos textos del Nuevo Testamento nos hablan sobre el simbolismo y la sacralidad de los pies. Por un lado se relata que en una comida una mujer unge los pies de Jesús, como símbolo de hospitalidad, dedicación, y respeto hacia el maestro. Por otro lado, Jesús mismo, en la última cena, lava los pies de sus discípulos como gesto de humildad y  amor sincero.

            La invitación de hoy es a ungir nuestros pies. Debemos ser conscientes de la carga que deben llevar a diario  ¿Cómo podemos aliviar la carga y hacer nuestro paso más ligero? ¿Qué caminos transitan nuestros pies cada día? ¿Son los caminos de Dios o son nuestras propias veredas? ¿Qué huellas vamos dejando en ese camino de vida?

 

Oración: Hoy queremos reconocer la sacralidad de tus pies, nuestro buen Jesús, tú que recorriste caminos de justicia, solidaridad, amor y paz. Queremos ungir tus pies con un testimonio auténtico. Guía nuestros pasos para que nunca nos desviemos de tu camino. Amén.
