JUSTIFIED BY GRACE

Romano 3:21-30

they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus

            Paul, formerly a fanatical Pharisee, a persecutor of Christians, now, by the saving grace of Jesus Christ, after a dramatic encounter with him, has understood the truth: we are not justified by works of the law, but by faith. The just shall live by faith, and not as the ancient scriptures said, shall live by fulfilling the law,

            Concerned about the community in Rome which he had founded, Paul writes this letter which is still valid: We do not need law or works; God in his grace shows us how we can be justified only by faith in Jesus Christ, believing in his sacrifice. In Christ there are no longer Jews nor Greeks, slaves or free; there is no ethnic nor class distinction. No one should any longer take pride as did the Pharisees and other groups who demanded fulfillment of the law, which they themselves were not able to do. Merit is finished. It is not written that fasting, abstinence from certain foods, the celebration of certain dates or set rituals will save us. Grace and God’s mercy offer us what the law cannot: salvation. The law only has value in teaching us what is evil, and our works are a grateful response to God for all his love shown in his Son. Thus, let us be not only hearers but doers of his Word, putting aside all vainglory. Only Jesus’ unconditional love can save the world.

 

Prayer: Lord, teach us that only Jesus’ life has merit and that only through faith in him can we be justified.

JUSTIFICADOS POR SU GRACIA

Romanos 3:21-30

Siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia, mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús.

Romanos 3:24

            Pablo, antes fanático fariseo, perseguidor de los cristianos, ahora, por la gracia salvadora de Jesucristo, después de un dramático encuentro con Él, ha comprendido la verdad: no somos justificados por las obras de la ley, sino mediante la fe. El justo por la fe vivirá, y no como decían las antiguas escrituras: el que cumple la ley vivirá.

            Preocupado por la comunidad de Roma, que él no ha fundado, Pablo escribe esta carta que mantiene gran vigencia: No necesitamos la ley, ni las obras, Dios en su gracia nos muestra cómo podemos ser justificados solo por la fe en Jesucristo, creyendo en su sacrificio. En Jesucristo ya no hay judíos o griegos, esclavos o libres, no hay distinción de etnia o clase social. Ya nadie debe mostrar orgullo como hacían los fariseos y otros grupos que exigían el cumplimiento de la ley que ellos mismos no cumplían. Se acabó el mérito. No está escrito que los ayunos, las abstinencias a ciertos alimentos, la celebración de ciertas fechas o determinados rituales nos salven. La gracia y la misericordia de Dios nos ofrecen eso que la ley no nos puede dar: la salvación. La ley sólo tiene el valor de enseñarnos lo que está mal y nuestras obras son una respuesta agradecida a Dios por tanto amor mostrado en su Hijo. Así que seamos no solo oidores, sino también hacedores de su Palabra y desechemos toda vanagloria. Solo el amor incondicional de Jesús puede curar al mundo.

 

Oración: Señor, enséñanos que sólo la vida de Jesús tiene mérito y que solo mediante la fe en él, podemos ser justificados. Amén.
