THE SHEEP

John 10:27-30

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

John 10:27

            In contrast to those who do not believe and do not follow him, his sheep listen with understanding and commitment. There is a mutual relationship: the sheep listen to his voice and the shepherd knows them. Based on this mutual knowledge, the sheep follow their pastor.

            Several important truths result, for example: eternal life, which is a gift for all those who believe. At times, we emphasize the quality of life, certainly it’s a biblical teaching, but here the emphasis is different; it’s a life that is projected toward the infinite future, since eternal life implies they will never perish. No one will snatch them from your hand closes all possibility of loss of life, which Jesus provides as long as faith is genuine. Jesus’ hand heals, protects, sustains, caresses and guides.

            In the same way a shepherd protects his sheep, Jesus protects his people from harm. Although believers are expected to suffer on earth, evil cannot harm their souls or take away their eternal life with God. There are many reasons to be afraid here on earth, but when you decide to follow Jesus, he offers eternal security that we can take ownership of here and now.

 

Prayer: Lord, may we always be within the fold of your sheep and recognize you as our shepherd. Amen.

LAS OVEJAS

Juan 10:27-30

Mis ovejas reconocen mi voz, yo las conozco y ellas me siguen.

            En contraste con los que no creen y no le siguen, sus ovejas oyen con comprensión y compromiso. Hay un mutuo conocimiento: las ovejas oyen su voz y el pastor las conoce a ellas. Basadas en este mutuo conocimiento, las ovejas siguen a su pastor.

            Varias verdades importantes surgen, por ejemplo, la vida eterna que es una dádiva para todos los que creen. A menudo enfatizamos la calidad de la vida, ciertamente es una enseñanza bíblica, pero aquí el énfasis es otro, es una vida que se proyecta hacia el futuro infinito, pues vida eterna implica que no perecerán jamás. Nadie las arrebatará de su mano cierra  toda posibilidad de pérdida de la vida, que Jesús provee siempre y cuando la fe sea genuina. La mano de Jesús sana, protege, sostiene, acaricia y guía.

            Del mismo modo que un pastor protege sus ovejas, Jesús protege a su pueblo del daño eterno. A pesar de que es de esperar que los creyentes sufran en la tierra, el mal no puede dañar sus almas ni quitarles su vida eterna con Dios. Existen muchas razones para sentir temor aquí en la tierra pero cuando se decide seguir a Jesús, Él ofrece seguridad eterna de la cual nos podemos apropiar aquí y ahora.

 

Oración: Señor, permite que siempre estemos dentro del redil de tus ovejas y que te reconozcamos como nuestro Pastor. Amén.
