OUR LAMPS LIGHTED

Luke 12:35-38

Be dressed and ready for service and keep your lamps burning.  (NIV)

            To hope has always been something that produces anxiety and impatience in me. I am among the people looking for rapid answers and results.

            However, to achieve any goal in life we have to prepare ourselves, and many times we have to hope.

            Today’s text is an invitation from Jesus to be vigilant, attending to the signs from God. Although we may only see food and medicine scarcity and suffer for  lack of hope, God asks us to keep our lamps burning. This means that we must live in the expectation of that love of God we receive freely; a love which we experience in each gesture of solidarity, and each word of life that we find in the Scriptures, in each testimony of faith that encourages us to continue the journey, and each daily sign of divine presence in the family, in the community, and our surroundings.

            Do not allow the light of faith and hope to be extinguished. Do not live as sleepwalkers without strength, without dreams and desires. And finally, let us be like this vigilant servant awaiting the arrival of God in our lives, to serve and love him and sit at his table of consummate salvation.

 

Prayer: Our God, help us to keep the lights of faith and love glowing, that we may always live expecting to recognize your voice when you come to our door. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

NUESTRAS LÁMPARAS ENCENDIDAS

Lucas 12:35-38

Tened vuestra cintura ceñida y vuestras lámparas encendidas

Lucas 12:35

            Esperar siempre ha sido algo que me produce ansiedad e impaciencia. Soy de las personas que procuran respuestas y resultados rápidos.

            Sin embargo,  para lograr cualquier meta en la vida tenemos que prepararnos y muchas veces tenemos que esperar.

            El texto de hoy es una invitación de Jesús a estar vigilantes, atendiendo a las señales de Dios. Aunque solo veamos escasez de comida, de medicamentos, falta de esperanza, Dios nos pide que mantengamos nuestras lámparas encendidas. Esto significa que debemos vivir a la espera de ese amor de Dios que recibimos gratuitamente; un amor que experimentamos en cada gesto de solidaridad, en cada palabra de vida que encontramos en las Escrituras, en cada testimonio de fe que nos alienta a seguir el camino, en cada señal cotidiana de la presencia divina en la familia, en la comunidad, en el vecindario.

            No dejemos que se apague la luz de la fe y la esperanza. No vivamos como dormidos, sin fuerzas, sin sueños, sin anhelos. En fin, seamos como ese siervo vigilante, pendiente de la llegada de Dios a nuestra vida, para servirle, amarle y sentarnos a su mesa plena de salvación.

 

Oración: Dios nuestro, ayúdanos a mantener encendidas las luces de la fe y el amor en nuestra vida, que vivamos siempre expectantes para reconocer tu voz cuando llamas a nuestra puerta. En el nombre de Jesús oramos. Amén.
