THE “ALL” IN THE COMMANDMENT

Romans 10: 8-15

Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.

            Some people, after certain experiences in their faith lives, show their intent to preach the Gospel outside of Cuba. They go to other countries in Africa or Asia, countries at a disadvantage, in order to help the people know God and come closer to faith as a source of hope and salvation.

            Certainly I believe that as Christians we must feel moved to speak to others about God confronted with the dramatic realities or with the many despairs of the modern world. But at the same time, there are many people around us, neighbors, friends, family, for whom also it is necessary to hear about love and divine consolation. It’s not necessary to travel thousands of kilometers to preach, nor is it necessary to be drawn only to those in limited situations.

            For that reason, Jesus teaches something more. His final commandment contains a component more encompassing, that of going to all the world and preaching to every creature. It is necessary to announce and to live the good news in every moment; that is the commandment.

            May God grant that we are called to be light. In our case that means in the neighborhood, at work, with friends, with strangers. May each experience bring us to reflect on the marvelous gift which we have and which permits us to share it with love.

 

Prayer: Father, use us in the task of carrying your message to others. Amen.

LOS “TODOS” DE UN MANDATO

Romanos 10: 8-15

Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio a toda criatura

Marcos 16:15

            Ciertas personas, tras determinadas experiencias en la vida de fe, manifiestan su intención de predicar el evangelio fuera de Cuba, salir a otros países, del África o de Asia, países en desventajas, para ayudar a que las gentes conozcan de Dios y se acerquen a la fe como recurso de esperanza y salvación.

            Creo que ciertamente, como cristianos, nos debemos sentir movidos a hablarles a otros de Dios frente a realidades dramáticas o frente a las múltiples desesperanzas del mundo moderno. Pero a la vez, tenemos mucha gente cercana, vecinos, amistades, familia, a quienes también les es necesario escuchar del amor y el consuelo divino. No hay que viajar miles de kilómetros para predicar, ni es necesario ceñirse solo al que está en situaciones límites.

            Por eso Jesús nos enseña algo más. Su mandato final tiene un componente más abarcador: el de ir por todo el mundo y predicar a toda criatura. Hay que anunciar y vivir las buenas nuevas en todo momento, ese es el mandato.

            Quiera Dios que estemos llamados a ser luz; en nuestra casa, en el barrio, en el trabajo, con los amigos, con los desconocidos; que cada experiencia nos lleve a reflexionar sobre el maravilloso regalo que tenemos y nos permita compartirlo con amor.

 

Oración: Padre, úsanos en la tarea de llevar tu mensaje a otros. Amén.
