THE CALL OF GOD

Jonah 1:1-7

“Get up and go to Ninevah, that great city, and cry out against it, for their evil has come to my attention.”

Jonah 1:2 (CEB)

            A church member had the following question in Sunday School class: “How can I know the will of God for my life?”  The teacher gave her a simple and unexpected answer:  “Remember, God is a good communicator.”  A few days before, the teacher had presented a conference on communication in marriage, and referring to the same, he remembered that in communication one speaks and the other listens.  Communication must be disposed to listen to what the person wishes to say for there to be an interrelationship between two parties. 

            In the case of Jonah, God presented the message clearly when God told him to go to Ninevah and preach. He heard, but he did not obey. He fled as if he did not know God’s will, and instead of buying a ticket to Ninevah, he bought one to go to Tarsus. For many of us, perhaps the call of God is accepting the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. For others, the call is to work with more effort in the church or to serve God in other areas.

            What boat will you take? One is the will of God, and the other is disobedience.

 

Prayer: Beloved God, I ask you to help us be obedient to your call and to fulfill your will. Amen.

EL LLAMAMIENTO DE DIOS

Jonas 1:1-7

Levántate y ve a Nínive, aquella gran ciudad, y pregona contra ella; porque ha subido su maldad delante de mí.

Jonás 1:2

            Una señora de la Iglesia hizo la siguiente pregunta en la clase de la Escuela Dominical: “¿Cómo puedo saber la voluntad de Dios para mi vida?”. El profesor le dio una respuesta sencilla e inesperada: “Recuerde, Dios es un buen comunicador”. Él había presentado días antes una conferencia sobre la comunicación en el matrimonio, y refiriéndose a la misma, le recordó que en comunicación uno habla, el otro escucha, y debe haber disposición para escuchar lo que la persona desea decir para la interrelación entre las dos partes.

            En el caso de Jonás, Dios presenta claramente su mensaje cuando le dice que vaya a Nínive y pregone. Él oyó, pero no obedeció. Huyó como si no supiera la voluntad de Dios, y en lugar de comprar el pasaje para ir a Nínive, lo compró para ir a Tarsis. Quizás para muchos el llamamiento de Dios es para aceptar la gracia salvadora de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Para otros, el llamamiento es trabajar con más ahínco en la Iglesia o servirle en otras áreas.

            ¿Qué barco tomarás? Uno es la voluntad de Dios, y el otro es la desobediencia.

 

Oración: Dios Amado, te pido que nos ayudes a ser obedientes a tu llamado y a cumplir tu voluntad. Amén.
