HUMILITY IN CHRIST

Philippians 3: 4-14

It is not that I have already reached this goal or have already been perfected, but I pursue it, so that I may grab hold of it because Christ grabbed hold of me for just this purpose.

Philippians 3:12 (CEB)

            Even though many times the image that Paul projects can be marked by an extra high self-esteem that gets close to vanity, the text that we have read today puts us into contact with humility as something that is central to his life. After a tour of all the merits that have made him into an impeccable practitioner and defender of the Jewish law, he declares all of it as vain in his new life in Christ.

            When we project ourselves without the filter of humility in life, our conduct will not reflect the love of Christ, at least not in a form that is capable of drawing those around us to him. It is not that we put aside the gifts that God has given us, but that we develop them without expecting praise for it. Paul was capable of recognizing that all wisdom and power of this world should submit to Christ through love: today we should raise the flag of humility. This will be a wonderful testimony for those who are hoping today for messages of renewal in their lives. Humility and love have to be the flags that distinguish us.

 

Prayer: Good God, take away from us all arrogance and vainglory so that dignity and humility will carry your light anywhere we go. Amen.

HUMILDAD EN CRISTO

Filipenses 3: 4-14

…no que lo haya alcanzado ya, ni que ya sea perfecto; sino que prosigo, por ver si logro asir aquello para lo cual fui también asido por Cristo Jesús.

Filipenses 3.12

            Aunque muchas veces la imagen que proyecta Pablo pueda estar marcada por una elevada autoestima que se acerca a la vanidad, el texto que hemos leído nos pone en contacto con la humildad como algo muy central en su vida. Luego de recorrer todos los méritos que le convertían en un intachable practicante y defensor de la ley judía, lo declara todo como vano en su nueva vida en Cristo.

            Cuando nos proyectamos en la vida sin el filtro de la humildad, nuestra conducta no reflejará el amor de Cristo, al menos no en una forma que sea capaz de acercar a él a quienes nos rodean. No es que dejemos a un lado los dones que Dios nos ha dado, es que los desarrollemos sin esperar loas por ello. Tal y como Pablo fue capaz de reconocer que todas las sabidurías y poderes de este mundo deben someterse a Cristo a través del amor, nosotros hoy debemos erigir la bandera de la humildad. Ese será un magnífico testimonio para quienes esperan hoy mensajes de renovación en sus vidas. La humildad y el amor han de ser las banderas que nos distingan.

 

Oración: Dios bueno, quita de nosotros toda arrogancia y vanagloria para poder llevar digna y humildemente tu luz a todo lugar donde vayamos. Amén.
