LOSS OR GAIN

Philippians 3:4-7

These things were my assets, but I wrote them off as a loss for the sake of Christ.

Philippians 3:7 (CEB)

            You lose and you win in life. Of course, we like to win more than to lose. Nevertheless, there is something curious: sometimes when we “lose” we win, and other times when we “win” we lose. This seems a paradox, but it happens especially in our spiritual life. The apostle Paul is an example of this.

            Reflecting on his life before he encountered Christ, Paul thought that he was winning in his religion of legalism. The thought would never have entered his mind that he should stop trusting in the flesh. He was airtight against any idea or lifestyle that was not within the framework of the law. But the wall came down. The resurrected, glorious Christ appeared to him, interrupted his journey, and this fanatic Saul was surrounded by grace. Now he would move in a land of new and marvelous realities.

            His old wins were now lost, and they produced a miraculous exchange just by knowing the love of Christ.

 

Prayer: Holy Father, we want to learn how to win over those who are apparently lost. Amen.

PÉRDIDA O GANANCIA

Filipenses 3:4-7

Pero cuántas cosas eran para mí ganancia, las he estimado como pérdida por amor a Cristo.

Filipenses 3:7

            En nuestra vida se pierde y se gana. Claro, más nos agrada ganar que perder. Sin embargo, hay algo curioso: algunas veces al “perder”, ganamos, y otras veces al “ganar”, perdemos. Esto parece paradójico, pero sucede, especialmente en la vida espiritual. Y el apóstol Pablo es un ejemplo de esto.

            Reflexionando sobre su vida anterior a su encuentro con Cristo, Pablo pensaba que en su religión de legalismo, él estaba ganando. En su mente, ni siquiera entraba el pensamiento de que debía dejar de confiar en la carne. Él estaba hermético a toda idea o estilo de vida que no fuera dentro del marco de la ley. Pero la muralla se derrumbó. El Cristo resucitado y glorioso se le apareció, le interrumpió su camino, y aquel Saulo fanático fue rodeado por la gracia. Ahora él se movería en un terreno de nuevas y maravillosas realidades.

            Su antigua ganancia era ahora pérdida, y se produce el milagroso trueque tan solo por el conocimiento del amor de Cristo.

 

Oración: Padre Santo, queremos aprender cómo sacar ganancia de lo aparentemente perdido. Amén.
