ALWAYS IN PREPARATION

Matthew 25:31-40

Preach the word, be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction. (NIV)

2 Timothy 4:2

            The other day it caught my attention while I was waiting my turn at the dentist, when I witnessed a young mother, who with much love, was reading a book to her little boy. The boy, seated on his knees, was fascinated by the story. And I too!      

            The Apostle Paul was aware of the fundamental importance of teaching in the nascent church; and above all, the importance of teaching in Timothy’s time, the second generation. Therefore, he expressed this charge to Timothy in explicit terms.

            Behold, a message for every pastor: Can we say that we have a program of ongoing formation for every member of our congregation? And there’s also a message for every Christian: do we feel that we have stopped learning new things about God, and that the old things we learned years before have lost their shine?

            Perhaps that is why Paul speaks not only of teaching but also of encouragement and even reprimand if it’s necessary as well. That is, a diet, a balanced regimen to guarantee healthy and regular growth of the Christian.

 

Prayer: Lord, help us not to forget that we cannot remain stagnant in learning of your words, and that every day we must advance in our spiritual life. In Jesus we ask. Amen.

SIEMPRE EN PREPARACION

Mateo 25:31-40

...te encargo mucho que prediques el mensaje y que insistas cuando sea oportuno y aun cuando no lo sea. Convence, reprende y anima, enseñando con toda paciencia.

2 Timoteo 4:2

            El otro día, mientras aguardaba mi turno en el dentista, me llamó la atención una joven madre que, con mucho cariño, le leía un libro a su hijito. El niño, sentado en sus rodillas, estaba fascinado por la historia. ¡Y yo también!

            El apóstol Pablo sabía de la importancia fundamental de la enseñanza en la iglesia naciente; y sobre todo, en lo que era ya en los tiempos de Timoteo, la segunda generación. Por eso expresa su encargo a Timoteo en términos tan dramáticos.

            He aquí un mensaje para cada pastor. ¿Podemos decir que tenemos un programa de formación continua para cada miembro de nuestra congregación? Y hay un mensaje también para cada cristiano: ¿sentimos que hemos dejado de aprender cosas nuevas acerca de Dios y que las cosas viejas que aprendimos años atrás han perdido su brillo?

            Es por eso que quizás Pablo habla no solo de enseñar sino de animar y hasta reprender si es necesario también. O sea, una dieta, un régimen equilibrado para garantizar  el crecimiento sano y regular del cristiano.

 

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a no olvidar que no podemos quedarnos estancados en el aprendizaje de tus palabras y que todos los días debemos avanzar en nuestra vida espiritual. Por Jesús te lo pedimos, amén.
