HIGH PRIORITY

Psalm 84:1-12

They departed and went through the villages proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.

Luke 9:6 (CEB)

            We all have at some point read this Psalm, the first of a collection composed to be used in praise of the Temple.  But even though the writer dedicated it to communal adoration, the content of the Psalm goes further, even to be in the presence of God is not a reality exclusive to the Temple.

            I had the privilege to visit the church in which David Livingstone worshipped, and to read a small plaque on the side of the sanctuary which reminds you of his presence. But more important than this were the stories that I heard told from one generation to another, filling that community with healthy pride.  Livingstone carried the church on his back, it existed wherever the believer was, which explains his continual battles against slavery and his death in Zambia in 1873, where he worked as a missionary and a fighter in favor of the people. 

            Our presence in the Temple, in any activity, strengthens the communion between us and God.  But what happens with our lives?  What happens with those who do not accompany us in the Temple because they do not make up part of the congregation?

            Without a doubt, it is better to be one day in the courts of the Lord than a thousand days outside of them, but let us not forget that the courts of this our Lord are not limited by the walls of a Temple. 

 

Prayer: Pardon us, Father, for the times when we do not visit your house, even when we put other things in front of you.  Help us to see that we need you all the days of our life.  Amen.

Salmo 84:1-12

Y saliendo, pasaban por todas las aldeas, anunciando el evangelio

Lucas 9:6

            Todos alguna vez hemos leído este Salmo, el primero de una colección compuesta para ser interpretada en la adoración del Templo. Pero aun cuando el escritor lo dedica a la adoración comunitaria, el contenido del Salmo va más lejos, pues estar en la presencia de Dios no es una realidad exclusiva del Templo.

            Tuve el privilegio de visitar la iglesia en que adoraba David Livingstone, y leer la pequeña placa que en un lateral del templo le recuerda. Pero más importante que esto fueron los relatos que escuché trasladado de una generación a otra y que llena de sano orgullo aquella comunidad. Para Livingstone, la iglesia se cargaba a la espalda, se vivía en ella dondequiera que el creyente estuviera, lo cual explica su continuo batallar en contra de la esclavitud y su muerte en Zambia en 1873, donde trabajaba como misionero y luchador a favor del pueblo.

            Nuestra presencia en el Templo, en cada actividad, fortalece la comunión de los unos con los otros y con Dios. Pero ¿qué pasa con nuestras vidas? ¿Qué pasa con los que no nos acompañan por no formar parte de una congregación?

            Sin dudas, es mejor estar un día en los atrios del Señor, que mil fuera de ellos, pero no olvidemos que los atrios de ese, nuestro Señor, no están limitados por las paredes de un Templo.

 

Oración: Perdónanos Padre, por las veces que no asistimos  a tu casa, pues ponemos por delante otros quehaceres. Ayúdanos a necesitarte todos los días de nuestra vida. Amén.
