ENTERING ADVENT AGAIN

Luke 1:26-38

Therefore, the Lord will give you a sign. The young woman is pregnant and is about to give birth to a son, and she will name him Immanuel.

            Preparation and wait are two words that mark Advent, the liturgical season which we begin today.  We wait and we prepare ourselves to receive Jesus anew in our lives.  Advent affirms the beginning as much as the end of the history of salvation. With his birth, Jesus inaugurates the Kingdom of God among us; with his final coming in glory, Jesus will consummate the fullness of his Kingdom.  The Lord came, comes and will come.  The Church, in order to grow the ethical dimensions of vigil and reception in these opportunities of encounter with Jesus Christ has been developing this liturgical season of Advent that actually begins with the end of Ordinary Time by proclaiming the last and definitive appearance of Christ at the end of time, and then moving to preparing for the commemoration of the birth of the Lord.

            Today we will light the first candle of the Advent wreath, an ancient and beautiful custom that always is characterized by a renewing and renewed nature.  Let us allow this light of Christ to penetrate and illumine our lives. 

 

Prayer: Lord, we beg for your blessing in this season that begins today. May our gazes at you today have the glow of hope and the expectations of preparation.  Amen.

OTRA VEZ EN ADVIENTO

Lucas 1:26-38

Por eso, el Señor mismo les dará una señal: la joven concebirá y dará a luz un hijo, y lo llamará Emanuel

Isaías 7:14

            Preparación y espera son dos palabras que marcan el adviento, estación litúrgica que iniciamos hoy. Esperamos y nos preparamos para recibir nuevamente a Jesús en nuestras vidas. Adviento afirma tanto el principio como el final de la historia de la salvación. Con su nacimiento, Jesús inaugura el Reino de Dios entre nosotros; con su venida final en gloria, Jesús consumará la plenitud de su Reino. El Señor, pues, vino, viene y vendrá; y la Iglesia, para cultivar las dimensiones éticas de vigilia y acogida ante estas ocasiones de encuentro con Jesucristo, ha ido desarrollando este tiempo litúrgico que en su primera parte corona el Tiempo Ordinario al anunciar la última y definitiva aparición de Cristo al final de los tiempos, y en su segunda parte prepara la conmemoración del nacimiento del Señor.

            Hoy encenderemos la primera vela de la corona de Adviento, una antigua y hermosa costumbre a la que siempre le damos un carácter renovado y renovador. Dejemos que esa luz de Cristo penetre e ilumine nuestras vidas.

 

Oración: Señor, rogamos tu bendición en esta época que comienza hoy.  Que nuestras miradas a ti en este día tengan el brillo de la espera y la expectativa de la preparación. Amén.
