LET US SEEK TO PLEASE GOD

1 Thessalonians 4: 1-12

Therefore whoever rejects this rejects not human authority but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you.

1 Thessalonians 4: 8 (NRSV)

            Time after time among Christians, the following question arises: How do we live in a way that is pleasing to God? We try to follow a principle established by Jesus: Love each other as I have loved you. However, we often feel that love is missing, not only for us but even less for God and his creatures.

            Then is when those “evil desires” of which Paul speaks arise, and also that is when we are tempted to let ourselves be dragged down by them and incapable of caring for our bodies with the respect they deserve as the beloved children of God that we are. The same lack of love toward ourselves and toward others at times moves us to abuse our neighbor and makes it difficult to live in peace, focused on our own responsibilities and applied to the work of our hands. Let us strive, then, to deepen our ability to love and thus, with certainthy, we will be pleasing to God.

 

Prayer: Lord, teach us to love as you love us so that our life may be pleasing to you. Amen.

PROCUREMOS AGRADAR A DIOS

1 Tesalonicenses 4: 1-12

Así pues, el que desprecia estas enseñanzas no desprecia a ningún hombre, sino a Dios…

            Recurrentemente surge entre los cristianos esta pregunta: ¿Cómo vivir de modo agradable a Dios? Intentamos seguir un principio establecido por Jesús: Ámense los unos a los otros como yo los he amado. Sin embargo, frecuentemente sentimos que el amor no nos alcanza, ni siquiera hacia nosotros mismos; aún menos hacia nuestro Dios creador y sus criaturas.

            Es entonces cuando surgen esos ¨malos deseos¨ de los que Pablo habla, y también es ahí cuando nos sentimos tentados a dejarnos arrastrar por ellos, e incapaces de cuidar de nuestros cuerpos con el respeto merecido, como amados hijos de Dios que somos. La misma falta de amor hacia nosotros y los otros a veces nos impulsa a abusar del prójimo y nos dificulta vivir en paz, centrados en las responsabilidades propias y aplicados a la obra nacida de nuestras manos. Procuremos, entonces, profundizar nuestra capacidad de amar y así, con certeza, agradaremos a Dios.

 

Oración: Señor, enséñanos a amar como tú nos amas, para que nuestra vida sea agradable a ti. Amén.
