MY YOUNG GOD

Romans 8:31-39

I am convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38a (CEB)

My God is young.  My God is the freshness of the dawn.  That’s why God is young every minute.  In my God there are no germs of death, God cannot get older.  God is abundance, a maturity that does not grow old. God is a day without end.  God is forever a youth. But this is life.  To be young is to look like my God.  That’s why, in the deepest part of my being a secret wish for youth lies hidden.  That’s why no one wants to get old.  That’s why the one who walks into the sunset of life always suffers.  That’s why there exists a mysterious attraction of the old to the young and a jealousy of bittersweet nostalgia.

Youth is fullness of illusion, it is the gift of maturity, fantasy, hope and beauty.  It is the yes of love.  That’s why my God is complicated, my furiously youthful God, my necessarily youthful God. And when humans get old in their soul, God continues being young.  That’s why my God is always getting closer, because God knows to read the goodness that hides beneath things, because God knows how to capture the imperceptible rumor of life that pops up everywhere so that the world will continue being young.

My youthful God knows that life is the definitive triumph.  My God is eternally young.  My God is the one who makes all things new, that is to say, youthful.  My God is the one who will inaugurate permanent youth of the centuries with the resurrection of all.

Prayer: My youthful God, thank you for the youthfulness that you show more and more all the time.  I want to be young like you, always available to undertake new things.  Amen.

MI DIOS JOVEN

Romanos 8:31-39
