Anniversary of the Getsemaní Church (Güines)

WE ARE WELCOME

Luke 5:27-32

And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples.

Matthew 9:10 (NRSV)

Jesus entered a house and shared his time with people that were not liked by proper society. In the New Testament, eating, rather than just being fed, was a form of being in communion. At that time, the community of the table was where mutual concerns were expressed. In these shared meals, Jesus showed so clearly his concern for those people of ill repute, and that is where he showed his critics that he wanted to give them what they lacked. They had no want for money, and they had sufficient economic resources. What they lacked was acceptance of and love for those around them. So, when he entered the house, he showed those publicans that he accepted them just as God accepted them. In response, they organized a party to celebrate their communion with Jesus.

We want to show the same when we celebrate Holy Communion in our congregations. The basis of this form of community is not human conditions but rather the love and joy of knowing that we are accepted by Him. That love of Jesus should be the basis for our human relations and also the foundation for coexistence in the congregation where we care for one another in the spirit of Jesus.

 

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for accepting and loving us. I ask that I may also accept and love my brothers and sisters. Amen.

Aniversario de la Iglesia Getsemaní (Güines)

SOMOS BIENVENIDOS

LUCAS 5:27-32

Sucedió que Jesús estaba comiendo en la casa, y muchos de los que cobraban impuestos para Roma, y otra gente de mala fama, llegaron y se sentaron también a la mesa junto con Jesús y sus discípulos.

Mateo 9:10

Jesús entró en una casa y compartió su tiempo con personas no queridas por la sociedad. Comer, en el Nuevo Testamento, más que alimentarse, es también una forma de tener comunión.

En aquel tiempo la comunidad de mesa era donde expresaban las preocupaciones mutuas. En estas comidas compartidas Jesús mostró muy claramente su preocupación por estas personas con mala fama, y allí es donde expresa que Él quiere darles a sus críticos lo que les faltaba. A ellos no les faltaba el dinero, tenían suficientes recursos económicos. Lo que les faltaba era la aceptación y el amor por los demás. Por eso cuando Jesús entró en la casa manifestó a aquellos publicanos que les aceptaba así como Dios también les aceptaba. En respuesta, organizaron una fiesta para celebrar la comunión con Jesús.

Sin duda este versículo quiere expresar que sentir el amor y la compasión del Señor produce alegría. Lo mismo queremos manifestar cuando celebramos la Santa Cena en nuestras congregaciones. Lo fundamental para  esa forma de comunidad no son las condiciones humanas, sino el amor y la alegría de saber que somos aceptados por Él. Ese amor de Jesús debe ser la base para nuestras relaciones humanas y también el fundamento para la convivencia en la congregación, donde nos preocupamos el uno por el otro en el espíritu de Jesús.

 

Oración: Señor, gracias porque tú nos aceptas y nos amas. Te pido que pueda aceptar y amar también a mis hermanos. Amén.
