PROMISES

2 Peter 1:3-8

Through these he has given us his very precious promises.

2 Peter 1: 4 (NIV)

Some believers take verses from a promise book to keep them reminded of one of God’s promises each day. The traditional hymn, “All the Promises of the Lord Jesus,” reminds us that these promises are “great” and “faithful” and have been given to us to trust in forever. In seeking the promises of a promise book, we should not think that God works magically, giving us an accommodating biblical text, or seeking to make some necessary sense of our current situation. Rather, we must rely on the divine guidance which through its promises, strengthens our faith. In such a spirit, the sharing of prayer is a testimony of trust in those faithful promises of God always.

The testimony of many brothers and sisters is that God speaks to us through these texts, exhorts us, encourages and sometimes – why not—also rebukes us and admonishes us. To experience this “speaking” of God to us is one of the precious things of the fellowship that is established in our devotional life.

 

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for your promises. We thank You that they prevail for those who have put their trust in You. Help us to live proclaiming and accepting them as Your gift to us each day. Amen

LAS PROMESAS

2 Pedro 1:3-8

Por medio de estas cosas nos ha dado preciosas y grandísimas promesas.

2 Pedro  1: 4

Algunos creyentes acostumbran a tomar versículos de un promesario, para mantenerse así recordando una promesa de Dios en cada día. El tradicional himno “Todas las promesas del Señor Jesús”, nos recuerda que dichas promesas son “grandes” y “fieles” y que nos han sido dadas para que confiemos en ellas por siempre.

Al buscar las promesas de un promesario no debemos pensar que Dios obra mágicamente, otorgándonos un texto bíblico complaciente, o queriendo buscar un necesario sentido a nuestra situación coyuntural. Más bien debemos confiar en la dirección divina que, mediante sus promesas, fortalece nuestra fe. En tal espíritu, compartir la oración es un testimonio de confianza en esas fieles promesas de Dios.

El testimonio de muchos hermanos es que Dios nos habla mediante esos textos, nos exhorta, anima, y a veces, por qué no, también reprende y amonesta. Experimentar ese “hablar” de Dios con nosotros, es una de las cosas preciosas de la comunión que se establece en nuestra vida devocional.

 

Oración: Señor, te damos gracias por tus promesas. Te damos gracias porque ellas prevalecen para quienes han puesto en Ti su confianza. Ayúdanos a vivir proclamándolas y aceptándolas, como tu regalo para nosotros cada día. Amén.
