A LIVING SACRIFICE

I Corinthians 9: 19-23

Therefore, I urge you brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true and proper worship.  (NIV)

The presentation of daily animal sacrifices was unavoidable within the ritual practices in the Temple of Jerusalem. Somehow, for many, it was a way to keep God’s favor, to win divine favor toward the nation. When someone offended the Law, he still had to present an animal for sacrifice, assuming that somehow his sin was settled with the death of the victim on the altar of holocausts.

According to Paul, the true “sacrifice” is each day’s behavior and in all circumstances. The apostle knew what that type of surrender meant to him personally as a living offering; his humble and embodied attitude, following the example of Jesus Christ, led him to a sacrificial ministry to reach many in various places.

In what ways do we fulfill the command to present ourselves as a living sacrifice? Let’s consider these propositions:

            Let’s always put others first.

            Let’s think about the biblical teaching before acting.

            Let’s consider if everything we do glorifies God.

 

Prayer: Lord, we wish to surrender our lives to you as an offering that pays tribute to your name. Prepare us for this mission. In Jesus Christ we ask it of you. Amen.

UN SACRIFICIO VIVO

I Corintios 9: 19-23

Hermanos míos, les ruego por la misericordia de Dios que se presenten ustedes mismos como ofrenda viva, santa y agradable a Dios

Romanos  12:1

Dentro de las prácticas rituales en el Templo de Jerusalén la presentación de sacrificios diarios de animales era insoslayable. De alguna manera, para muchos, era una vía para mantener a Dios propicio, ganar el favor divino hacia la nación. Cuando alguien ofendía la Ley, igualmente debía presentar un animal para el sacrificio, asumiendo que de alguna manera su pecado quedaba saldado con la muerte de la víctima en el altar de los holocaustos.

Acorde con Pablo, el verdadero “sacrificio” es la conducta de cada día y en todas las circunstancias. El apóstol sabe lo que le ha significado a él en lo personal ese tipo de entrega, como ofrenda viva; su actitud humilde y encarnada, siguiendo el ejemplo de Jesucristo, le llevó a un ministerio sacrificial para alcanzar a muchos en diversos lugares.

¿En qué modos hacemos realidad el mandato de presentarnos como un sacrificio vivo? Consideremos estas proposiciones:

            Pongamos siempre a los demás en primer lugar

            Pensemos en la enseñanza bíblica antes de actuar

            Consideremos si todo lo que hacemos da gloria a Dios

 

Oración: Señor, queremos entregarte nuestras vidas como una ofrenda que rinda tributo a tu nombre. Capacítanos para esta misión. Por Jesucristo te lo pedimos. Amén.
