WE NEED EACH OTHER

James  5:13-16

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven

In the church, the image of the body that Paul presented in some of his letters should always be kept in mind. The body’s parts are interdependent; its organs and parts  a whole, the eye cannot say to the hand: -- I have no need of you, nor the head to the feet: -- I have no need of you (I Cor 12:21). We need one another.

The text of James places us in an ancient practice, where the whole church united to assist and help others, to share both with those who are joyful and with those who suffer, to bring relief to the sick and to rejoice with those who are celebrating, to intercede together and also to confess our offenses. Certainly everything that the church brings in prayer to God in intercessory communion is heard by the Lord and he works in favor of his own; we have multiple testimonies of this.

Sadly, we sometimes allow differences and other minor issues to raise barriers that prevent true communion, and our prayer is not effective from such positions. Let us remember, we need each other, always

 

 Prayer: Lord, as your body, help us to live lives that bear witness to our acting in unity. May we always act with an awareness of the need to support one another. Amen.

NOS NECESITAMOS

Santiago  5:13-16

Otra vez os digo que si dos de vosotros se pusieren de acuerdo en la tierra acerca de cualquier cosa que pidieren, les será hecho

En la iglesia debe tenerse siempre presente la imagen del cuerpo que Pablo presentara en algunas de sus cartas. El cuerpo, como organismo, es interdependiente de sus órganos y partes en su totalidad, el ojo no puede decir a la mano: -no te necesito, ni tampoco la cabeza a los pies: -no tengo necesidad de vosotros (I Cor 12:21). Nos necesitamos los unos de los otros.

El texto de Santiago nos coloca en una práctica antigua, donde la iglesia toda se unía para asistir y ayudar a los demás, compartir tanto con el que está alegre como con el que sufre, brindar alivio al enfermo y gozarse con el que está de fiesta, interceder juntos y también confesar nuestras ofensas. Ciertamente de todo aquello que la iglesia lleva en oración a Dios en comunión intercesora, es escuchado por el Señor y él obra a favor de los suyos; de eso tenemos múltiples testimonios.

Lamentablemente a veces dejamos que las diferencias y otras cuestiones de menor importancia nos levanten barreras que impiden la verdadera comunión, y nuestra oración no es efectiva desde tales posiciones. Recordemos, nos necesitamos unos a otros, siempre.

 

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a vivir vidas que den testimonio de nuestro actuar en unidad, como tu cuerpo. Que siempre obremos conscientes de la necesidad de brindarnos apoyo mutuo. Amén.
