The healing of Jesus through our hands

…and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing all. (NIV)

Luke 6: 19

Those people had faith in that man who wandered the land speaking of love, compassion, of hope. They went with a faith that was not entirely blind,  since they’d heard about a Jesus who didn’t distinguish between who was, or wasn’t, worthy of his miracles.

In our communities of faith, the miracle of health is present with other faces: accompaniment,  concern, conversation that gives encouragement, the call when a brother or sister is missing from worship.

Jesus has chosen us today, just as he chose his twelve disciples that day, and has given us the power to perform those miracles of healing. It doesn't matter that we are not the most eloquent or academically prepared people. Just as he did with the disciples, God puts light and truth in the humble mouths that are willing to share them.

The serious question is, even with our problems, do we have this willingness too, to come down from the mountain and accompany those who need it?

Let’s be attentive in prayer and action, so that other people feel the energy of Jesus through our outstretched hands and willingness to help.

Prayer: Among so much precariousness and complexity of life, allow us, God, to speak of love, compassion and hope, with the certainty that you have called us to heal with the haven of your Word. Amen.
