LET’S MAKE THE MESSAGE RESONATE

Luke 9: 7-9

Who, then, is this I hear such things about? And he tried to see him.

Luke 9: 9b (NIV) 

There are passages in the Bible so harsh and violent, that sometimes, it takes a lot of work to find God’s message in them. But what is certain is that, in each word of the sacred text, there is a lesson, an ethical proposal, a message from God.

Herod hears about Jesus and does not understand who this new prophet is, as if killing one voice means that no more voices will be raised. The powers that be believe that by silencing, hiding, killing those who raise their voices, they can extinguish the flame of the Gospel in the honeys of voices that follow Jesus. 

This, then is a text of hope that shows us that prophetic voices will always be raised, even when they try to silence some of them. Let us always be consistent with those who have gone before us in the struggle for justice, in the proclamation of the Gospel. Let us never let the witness of God’s presence in our land be extinguished.

 

Prayer: Lord, may our message resound, may nothing silence us, may we always proclaim your name. Amen

HAGAMOS RESONAR EL MENSAJE

Lucas 9: 7-9

¿Quién es, entonces, de quien oigo tales cosas? Y procuraba verle

Hay textos en la Biblia tan duros y violentos, que a veces, nos cuesta encontrar el mensaje de Dios en él. Pero lo cierto es que, en cada palabra del texto sagrado , hay una enseñanza, una propuesta ética, un mensaje de Dios.

Herodes escucha hablar de Jesús y no entiende quién es este nuevo profeta, como si matar una voz, significara que más ninguna se levantara. Los poderes creen que callando, escondiendo, matando a quienes alzan su voz, pueden apagar la llama del Evangelio en las mieles de voces que siguen a Jesús. Entonces, este es un texto de esperanza que nos muestra, que siempre se levantarán voces proféticas, aún cuando intenten acallar algunas. Seamos siempre consecuentes con quienes nos antecedieron en la lucha por la justicia, en la proclamación del Evangelio. No dejemos que nunca se apague el testimonio de la presencia de Dios en nuestra tierra.

 

Oración: Señor, haz que nuestro mensaje resuene, que nada nos silencie, que siempre proclamemos tu nombre. Amén
