Thursday, February 7 WHAT IS URGENT MATTHEW 6:31-34

Thursday, February 7
WHAT IS URGENT
MATTHEW 6:31-34
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33 (NRSV)
Urgent is a word that we live with daily in our agitated life and so we have forgotten any meaning of pressure or priority. Urgent is already a rhythm of life. . . a way of passing through life. Urgently is the poorest way to live life because on the day we depart from this pilgrimage, we leave undone those things that are truly urgent.
Perhaps if we were asked daily when we go out to tend to our affairs what is most urgent for us, we would say, Today I am going to straighten out the papers in my house, or those of my travel. Others might say, I need to find food for my family. Another, I must work in order to find extra money for my children. And that’s not bad.
But at times it is more urgent that you stop in your busy life, and for a moment, see yourself and ask yourself, what is the meaning of all that I’m doing? Urgent . . . is stopping and realizing, How great Thou art!

Urgent. . . is when you walk down the street, lifting your sight, turning and looking around yourself, observing the sky, the trees, the birds . . . the people! Urgent . . . is being more human, more brotherly! Urgent . . . is knowing how to value the time that a child asks of us. Urgent . . . is when you take a moment in your work, go out and breathe deeply and feel how the air fills your lungs and . . . you are alive! Urgent . . . is that today you tell the people you love how much you love them and not wait for tomorrow. Urgent . . . is that you don’t let your life go out in a breath and when you look back give thanks to God for the time lived and the happiness that has followed you throughout the entire journey that is life.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the many blessings which you give us daily and which we don’t see but know that without them we could not live. Thanks for your eternal companionship, for your mercy and for your love of your people. Amen.

LO QUE ES URGENTE
MATEO 6:31-34

Wednesday, February 6 THE REFRESHING POWER OF SHADE PSALM 121

Wednesday, February 6

THE REFRESHING POWER OF SHADE
PSALM 121
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
Psalm 121:6 (NRSV)
For a lot of people, the summer is their favorite season of the year. However, the excessive heat can be dangerous. Advisories of extreme heat are published so that people can protect themselves from dehydration.
After spending a lot of time in the strong sun, it’s refreshing to rest in the shade.
Sometimes the heat causes our lives to heat up. We have problems and worries about our families, our work, our health, or the future. At those times, we need to remember that Jesus provides us with the shade we need to face all the heat that life can offer. Jesus gives us refuge and strength to face the challenges that present themselves to us. Amid danger, Jesus gave himself unreservedly to his death on the cross. The shade of the cross must have a special significance for every believer, because with Christ as our Savior, we have no fear of eternity, let alone the present.
Christ provides his refreshing shade in all our extreme heat waves. Thanks to Him, our forecast for life and abundant life is secure and favorable.

Prayer: Lord, you are the best of friends. It’s a privilege to be able to offer everything to you in prayer. We ask that your shadow always reach us and protect us amid the excessive heat of our lives. Amen.

EL PODER REFRESCANTE DE SU SOMBRA
SALMO 121

El sol no te hará daño de día, ni la luna de noche
Salmo 121:6

Tuesday, February 5 Anniversary of El Redentor Church (Versalles) GETTING OURSELVES UP FROM THE WAITING BENCH PSALM 62

GETTING OURSELVES UP FROM THE WAITING BENCH
PSALM 62

Steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
For you repay to all according to their work.
Psalm 62:12 (NRSV)
Many folks pass a great part of their lives sitting on the waiting bench, thinking, sometimes sleeping, or simply wrapped up in the daily routine, in the daily worries. Anyone who worries and can’t see with the heart and act as such, is also seated on the waiting bench, even if he doesn’t know it.
These are times to apply the verbs: love, feel, help, work, understand, and fight. Evil often appears before us to see what we can do. A quick solution is to turn your back on the problem and follow the obvious path. Solving a problem requires bravery and wisdom. It’s easier to turn away than to interfere.
There’s a story that speaks of two friends leaving a restaurant when the unbeliever says to the believer, If your God existed and was a God of love, of goodness, and of justice, how do you explain the existence of that child who lives in the street with dirty clothes and begging for alms? The devotee replied, God has placed him in your path to see what you can do.
In our daily walk we often don’t hear God and don’t accomplish the objectives that he has for our lives. It’s necessary to open our hearts and give of ourselves even more, and to ask of the Lord, What do you expect from me?

Prayer: Lord, let us work with faith and work with our heart. Let us give of ourselves without expecting anything in return, contemplating the light and saying to the Lord, here I am. Amen,

LEVANTARNOS DEL BANCO DE LA ESPERA
SALMO 62

Monday, February 4 I HAVE LOST EVERYTHING PHILIPPIANS 3:1-11

Monday, February 4
I HAVE LOST EVERYTHING
PHILIPPIANS 3:1-11

Yet whatever gains I had,
these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ.
Philippians 3:7 (NRSV)
Paul’s life before his conversion was the life of a person of an assured economic position: a member of the dominant class, a Hebrew of Hebrews, Pharisee in accordance with the Law, esteemed by those who governed. After his encounter with Christ on the Damascus road, everything was overturned in such a way that he himself said, I have lost everything. For a man who had had everything to suddenly be stripped doubtless resulted in an extremely difficult situation. It certainly must have been hard for him, but that didn’t matter.
The Christian life is a paradox: one must lose in order to gain, to lose one’s life in order to find it again. The one who would follow Christ must set aside all personal ambition, relinquish the old human being and be a new person in Christ. That is one who gives everything for his neighbor, who is prepared to lose his life so that others can gain it.

Prayer: Lord, help us to set aside every attachment so that we may carry your cross and follow you. May we love as you love, give as you give. May we learn to be able to lose everything for you! Amen.

LO HE PERDIDO TODO
FILIPENSES 3:1-11

Sunday, February 3 Anniversary of El Cristo Church (Matanzas) CONFESSION REVELATION 3:1-6

Sunday, February 3
Anniversary of El Cristo Church (Matanzas)

CONFESSION
REVELATION 3:1-6

I will confess your name before my Father and before his angels.
Revelation 3:5 (NRSV)
I will never again confess to weakness because I can do anything through Christ who strengthens me. I will never again confess to shortcomings because my God will supply everything I lack according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. I will never more confess to fear because God has not given me a spirit of cowardice but of power, love, and self-control. I will never again confess to doubt and lack of faith because God has distributed to each their measure of faith. I will never again confess to weakness because The Lord is the strength of my life, and the people who know God will strive and act. I will never again confess to defeat because God always raises us in triumph in Christ Jesus. I will never again admit lack of wisdom because, Christ Jesus has been wisdom through God. I will never again confess to sickness because by his wounds I have been healed. I will never again confess to worries because I can cast all my anxiety on him, because he takes care of me. I will never again confess to slavery because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Prayer: God of life, allow us every day to confess you and to honor you, not only with our voices but with an authentic witness in accordance with your will. Amen.

CONFESIÓN
APOCALIPSIS 3:1-6

..y confesará su nombreY
Apocalipsis 3:5

Saturday, February 2 AFTER ME JAMES 2:14-17

Saturday, February 2
AFTER ME
JAMES 2:14-17

So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.
James 2:17 (NRSV)
Often when our local Sessions or Presbyteries meet, and even in the Synod itself, we agree on projects, whether of construction or any other sort, that incredibly are approved unanimously. However, when seeking volunteers to assume responsibility for these tasks, not many respond after the first minutes. They think about it, they analyze it in silence saying to themselves, I can’t do it. I have a lot of work in the office, in my home; I have little children. Forget it, everything is so difficult to achieve or to manage. Transportation is very poor. It doesn’t work. I can’t do it. Let others do it. Have you ever thought what it would be like for your Church if all the parishioners thought like that?
In fulfilling his mission, Jesus never turned back in the face of conflict, persecutions, or before the very uncertainty of the cross.
The act of being disciples of Christ implies a disposition to be doers of the Word and not just hearers, even when doing the divine will implies sacrifice of time, of comfort, of interests, and even of life itself.
Whoever follows the path of discipleship, by renouncing all for Christ, undertakes his tasks with good will, joy, and courage, despite any obstacle. This is how one honors Christ.

Prayer: Lord, give us the wisdom to live each day. Give us strength and wisdom to respond to your call with conviction and faithfulness. Amen.

EN POS DE MÍ
SANTIAGO 2:14-17

Friday, February 1 AN EXAMPLE WORTH IMITATING PROVERBS 16 :31

Friday, February 1
AN EXAMPLE WORTH IMITATING
PROVERBS 16 :31

Gray hair is a crown of glory
Proverbs 16:31(a) (NRSV)
I confess that one of the letters I have read and on which I have had cause to reflect is the one directed by Ho Chi Minh to the Vietnamese elders in the year 1945:

“Gentlemen, I address you as an elder. When old age arrives, so says the proverb, talent is exhausted. That is what the elders of our country often think. If a task presents itself, they are heard to say: When you get old, you must remain calm. Every passing day, the years weigh on us. Ambition is not of our age. Let’s leave the problems of life to the young. We already have one foot in the grave. Why work? I don’t share that opinion. True patriots have never resigned themselves to inaction because of age. Each one of us, young or old, must take part in shouldering the work. The young will carry the heaviest part of the work; we whose age prevents us from doing so much, will march at the head, baton in hand, to exhort them and give them experience. Our age imposes on us the obligation to be the first in uniting sincerely in order to set an example. . .”
I think this is a challenge for us who have spent so many more years in the work of the Presbyterian Church in our country, to direct our steps to be an example before the generations of youth who are taking shape. We must all come together with immense desire to serve, to love, to edify, to be useful. No matter the age, there will always be a place for each one of us. Having gray hair forces us to serve with greater strength our Church in Cuba.

Prayer:  Lord, help us to understand that age makes no difference if it is about working together for your Church, putting forth our best effort.

UN EJEMPLO DIGNO DE IMITAR
PROVERBIOS 16:31

Corona de honra es la vejez
Proverbios 16:31

No comparto esa opinión.
