THE JOY OF FEELING OURSELVES
LOVED BY GOD
ACTS 14 8-23

Though you have not seen him, you live him;
and even though you do not see him now,
you believe in him and are filled
with an inexpressible and glorious joy.

1 Peter 1:8

Joy and happiness are evoked in the Bible more than three hundred times.  That means that the Bible contains an essential message to have a happy life.

The simple joys of life form part of God’s plan for human beings.  It is He who gives them. For example: the joy a meal brings, the birth of a baby, passing an academic year with satisfactory grades, and much more.

At times Jesus announced the Kingdom of God using those simple joys. But do we know how to take joy with simplicity and freshness before the multiple blessings that God gives us each day?

God asks us to go much further, since our joys take their true dimension when they are lived in relation with God.  Without doubt, the Christian’s joy is, above all, a spiritual joy.  It’s the joy of knowing God as the Father and Mother of life.  On being conscious of his mercy, our fears and tears are swept away to give space to the joy of being loved by God.  This joy of feeling ourselves loved by God is more elevated than any other human joy.

Prayer:  Thank you Lord for the joy we experience in you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Día del Amor

EL GOZO  DE SENTIRNOS AMADOS POR DIOS
HECHOS 14 :8-23

Wednesday, February 13 TO PROGRESS JOSHUA 1:6-9

Wednesday, February 13
MOVING FORWARD
JOSHUA 1:6-9

Be strong and courageous…  (NIV)
Joshua 1:6

No one reaches the goal in a single attempt, nor perfects life with a single correction, nor reaches height with a single flight.  No one walks through life without having made false moves many times.

No one sees life without cowering on many occasions, or boards a ship expecting a storm, or comes to shore without some rowing.
No one does works without working hard, no one unites two banks without having made a bridge.  No one can judge without first having known his own weaknesses.
No one knows opportunity until it’s passed by and he’s let it escape.
But no one hesitates when one has clarity of objective, the will to fight, the strength to recommence, abundant life for oneself and to share, the impulse to go on despite defeats and doubts.

If you extract from yourself everything that impedes your advancing and trust that God is with you, you could gather sufficient strength to strive and continue ahead.

Prayer:   May your strength complete my weakness, Lord, and encourage me to live without fears. Amen.

SEGUIR ADELANTE
JOSUE  1:6-9

Tuesday, February 12 HE IS THE WAY ACTS 4:12

Tuesday, February 12
HE IS THE WAY
ACTS 4:12

Jesus said to him: I am the way, the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me. (NIV)
John 14:6

Jesus doesn’t tell us that he’s a way, rather that he is the way, the only way to know God as Father.

Perhaps you would like to invent your own way to know God. The manner in which every believer has encountered God is different, since God comes to us according to our circumstances. But it was God who chose the way through which we can go to him.

That way is Jesus. The common denominator of the faith of all believers, whatever their origin may have been, their age, culture or social condition, is that each one sees Jesus as the Son of God and believes in him and in his message of forgiveness and justice for all human beings.

The Gospel is for men and women of any culture, country and social condition.  Even today the goodness of Jesus for us is unlimited, it’s infinite like the love of God. Jesus loves all of us, and each of us in particular. He wants us to make his way ours.

Prayer:  Thank you Jesus for your goodness. Thank you for showing us your way, and for encouraging us to construct your kingdom, assured of your company through the Holy Spirit. Amen.

ÉL ES EL CAMINO
HECHOS 4:12

Jesús le dijo: Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida;
nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí
Juan 14:6

Monday, February 11 Anniversary of the church “Juan G. Hall” (Cárdenas) SAVE ONESELF THROUGH GOOD WORKS? EPHESIANS 2:8-9

Monday, February 11
Anniversary of the church “Juan G. Hall” (Cárdenas)

SAVE ONESELF THROUGH GOOD WORKS?
EPHESIANS 2:8-9

All of us have become like one who is unclean…  (NIV)
Isaiah 64:6

Many people think that good works are sufficient to get through life without examining their conscience before daily errors.  I invite us today to ask ourselves: What value do our good works have, including the religious?

At times they’re spoiled by pride, or the secret desire that our fellow man may congratulate us for them. In reality, doing good works isn’t meritorious in God’s eyes. Good actions are a normal conduct before God; and don’t erase anything of our sins, and don’t compensate for misdeeds. If someone kills another it’s a murder, even if he had previously done good works, and will continue being a murder although he may do many good works again.

So there’s no solution then?  Yes, it’s God’s grace that brings forgiveness through the work of Jesus. It’s his grace that is showered upon us like fresh rain that fertilizes our aridity and makes us produce the fruits of his Spirit. Accept today his infinite grace with humility, and share this good news with those around you.

Prayer:  God of love, don’t let us fall into the temptation of believing ourselves good for what we do.  Help us to find Jesus in order to live in your grace. Amen.

Aniversario de la Iglesia “Juan G. Hall” (Cárdenas)

¿SALVARSE MEDIANTE BUENAS OBRAS?
EFESIOS 2:8-9

Sunday, February 10 HE LOVES ME PSALM 23:1-3

Sunday, February 10
HE LOVES ME
PSALM 23:1-3

This is how we know what love is.
Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.  (NIV)
1 John 3:16

Jesus loves me as I am. He searches for me, a sheep unable to find the sheepfold for myself. He accepts to utilize me, and I’m important to him. He has taken enough interest in me to have come to save me.

He has loved me minute after minute since my birth. He has blessed me with every need. He awaits my love, he seeks me, and he calls me by name, which he knows very well. In my rebellious moments, when everything goes wrong in the human condition, and I commit the error of not telling him of it, he is patient, he waits.

Despite everything, he is always perfectly faithful.  At times I forget him, I act contrary to his will, and I’m unable to return his love.  But despite everything, without a day passing, he loves me. There are days in which, once again, our greatest defects win the battle; but even so, God doesn’t stop loving us

His friendship toward us is marked by fidelity and dedication without reserve. Yes, he loves us with a constant love every day, and that encourages us to honor him for all our lives.

Prayer:  Thank you, Jesus, for loving me. You love me at all times and in all circumstances. Thank you, Amen.

ÉL ME AMA
SALMO 23:1-3

Gracias.  Amén.

Saturday, February 9 MY TRUST IN GOD’S SUPPORT

Saturday, February 9
MY TRUST IN GOD’S SUPPORT

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me,
for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge
in the shadows of your wings
until the disaster has passed.   (NIV)
Psalm 57:1

The psalmist approaches God with sincerity and opens his heart amidst desperation.  In a nix of feelings, we find in this psalm the voice of someone who could easily be ourselves. The story has passed, the context has changed, but nevertheless the inner wrenching, the need of accompaniment, the hostile situations…that has not changed, it continues being a possibility in our existence, and also in our view of God.

When we feel this way what do we do?  Our first instinct, perhaps, may be to resolve the problems ourselves; but the psalmist begins his prayer with a supplication in which one can perceive the desperation of the moment through which he’s passing. He concedes to God the direction of his life, and places his trust in him, in God’s hand, and trusting in his power he will be able to confront any trial in this life.

Today we may think: what problems could affect our relationship with God and with others, now and in the future?  We may also be light for those who have to confront dissimilar situations today. Let’s encourage them to trust in God.

Prayer:  God, permit me to place my trust in you, to discover new possibilities when it seems as though all is lost. Amen.

Mi confianza en la ayuda de Dios
Salmo 57

Friday, February 8 PREPARE FOR THE EVIL DAY PSALM 27:1-5

Friday, February 8
PREPARE FOR THE EVIL DAY
PSALM 27:1-5

The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27: 1b (NRSV)
It’s said that in everyone’s life there are good days and bad days, and that it’s necessary to take the best advantage of the good ones, because there’s no escaping the others.
In reading the 27th Psalm we realize that its author, David, sees the evil day coming but expresses his confidence in God, the true strength of life. His faith found in God a refuge symbolized as a place of shelter, the tent or the rock. Therefore, he wasn’t afraid to think about the day of trial.

Paul also, in the letter to the Ephesians, invokes that evil day. Hence the need to prepare for a confrontation; on the one hand we must be firm, and on the other, resist. Thus, it is necessary to be clothed with the whole armor of God, which are resources that God puts at the disposal of his own for a combat of such magnitude.
Of all those resources, we must take advantage especially of Bible reading which feeds our soul, and of prayer which keeps us in direct and close contact with God.
The secret of the believer’s strength is that God is there for him, and that at all times he can be in touch with God. Then we will find relief in due time.

Prayer: Lord, help me to remember that you are always there for me. You are my rock and my protection. Of whom shall I be afraid? Amen.

PREPARARNOS PARA EL DÍA MALO
SALMO 27:1-5

El Señor es la fortaleza de mi vida;
de quién he de atemorizarme?
Salmo 27: 1
