Sunday, January 20 JESUS AND HIS MIRACLES JOHN 9:10-25

Sunday, January 20
JESUS AND HIS MIRACLES
 JOHN 9:10-25

But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.

John 3:21 NIV

The man blind from birth met Jesus and his physical and spiritual eyes were opened. He was filled with gratitude; and when he met those who censured him, he experienced what may often have happened to you: he had to decide on a response. He immediately replied: one thing I know, once blind, now I see.

Many times, we don’t have another answer to give to those who bother us and those who are like those strict religious extremists, and we have to say the same thing as that man:  One thing I know, that now I see.  What sentence more eloquent could there be in the life of a human being?

The world needs such testimonies that are not theological, erudite arguments. They tend to give a psychological impact that Christ used in his preaching; miracles like these never will go out of style and will serve as an example for all people in their encounter with God.

Our Lord has chosen you and me to be collaborators in this beautiful work, that although privileged, is also full of responsibilities for those who have not yet had a definitive and true encounter with Jesus.

Prayer:  Beloved God, you are the architect of each miracle in our lives. Allow us to give witness to your love every moment.  Amen.

JESÚS Y SUS MILAGROS
 JUAN  9: 10-25

Saturday, January 19
ETERNAL TRUTH
 HEBREWS 13:1-8
Fear God and keep his commandments,
For this is the whole duty of man.
Ecclesiastes 12:13b NIV

God has been revealed in history through Jesus.  This is an incomparable truth that we cannot doubt.  Through all the generations, Jesus Christ has been the only one capable of giving full happiness to human beings.

We speak of the greatness of science, but science has not been able to satisfy our hearts.  Knowledge has also not been enough.  We think about the amazing creation and it is no more than the work of a Creator.  We think about art, home, family, and all the marvelous things that the human being can do and that can give us happiness, but it cannot completely transform our lives.  Ennobling work can do a lot for us, as can piety toward others, but God cannot be disconnected from these things.  As God has given us lungs to breathe pure air, God has also given us a soul to be filled with God.

Societies change, but God never changes.  God has been manifested in different ways over time.  Personally, in Jesus Christ, God made a visible and marvelous work and even in our days continues manifesting himself in all his creation and just as effectively through the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:  Thank you, God, for revealing yourself in Jesus Christ and for transforming our lives with this eternal truth.  Help us to follow you boldly and consistently, Amen.

VERDAD ETERNA
 HEBREOS  13: 1-8

Friday, January 18 Beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity ECUMENICAL LIFE JOHN 17:14-23

Friday, January 18
Beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

ECUMENICAL LIFE
JOHN 17:14-23

May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
John 17:21b  NIV

I knew someone who always said, “When I wake up, I ask God for the world to be more ecumenical” and after a few seconds said, “truly ecumenical.”  And it is true that in our reality we should stress the spirit of dialogue, cooperation, understanding, empathy, commitment, critical examination…that drives ecumenism. In the scope of the Church there is still much more to be accomplished in this regard.  Our communities, beyond the denominational differences, should open ourselves to brotherhood and service-- that would be a witness of unity to the world.

In these days when we celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, we should stop to analyze how much we are doing to break down the barriers that separate us as brothers and sisters in the faith.  How much more fruitful our work would be, if, inspired by the example of Jesus, we are open to everything that encourages us to sow, build, strengthen…even beyond creeds and ideologies.

Prayer:  God of goodness, may we act with faith in such a way that we can overcome the barriers and stumbling blocks that work against unity.  Amen.

Comienza Octavario de Oración por la Unidad Cristiana

VIDA ECUMÉNICA
JUAN 17:14-23

Que también ellos sean uno en nosotros;

Thursday, January 17 I AM GOING IN FRONT OF YOU MATTHEW 28:7

Thursday, January 17
I AM GOING IN FRONT OF YOU
            MATTHEW 28:7

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations….
Matthew 28:19a  NIV

Many Christians, doing the work of evangelism in one way or another, feel confused and perplexed. They forget the important role that the proclamation of the Gospel plays.  In the reading for our meditation today we see that the Lord is our guide, a valued map that we can never discard.

We have examples of this truth through the Scriptures and throughout history. In the case of the disciples after the resurrection, “He went in front of them.”  In the same way he went in front of Paul on the road to Damascus and prepared the conditions with Ananias, who was the means used to help Paul.  He went in front of Philip, with the eunuch on the road to Gaza.  And we find countless examples of where the Lord has always gone in front.  We are currently facing a prevailing disbelief in the whole world; but like in the old days, despite the negative situations, Jesus goes in front, preparing the ground where we will step.  Under this promise, the Church feels comforted and secure in the realization of the work entrusted to us.  God’s plans will be completed in the world, and it is not up to us to understand them, only to obey and to serve: “He goes in front of us…”  “Here I am with you every day until the end of the world.”
If Christ is with us, all will go well.  Our task is to take responsibility to testify, trusting in his help.  We sow the seed and we leave the rest to the Lord; God will reap the harvest.

Prayer: Lord, we ask you, amid the indifference of the modern human being, that all Christians will be witnesses of our faith in you.  Amen.

HE AQUÍ VA DELANTE DE VOSOTROS
            MATEO 28:7

Id y haced discípulos a todas las naciones
Mateo 28:19

Wednesday, January 16 THE POWER OF PRAISE 1 THESSALONIANS 5: 16-18

Wednesday, January 16
THE POWER OF PRAISE
   1   THESSALONIANS  5: 16-18

Give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
I Thessalonians 5:18 NIV

In this Biblical text we find realities that may seem contradictory, although they are not.
When we recognize the presence and power of God in each action or circumstance, we are declaring that it is authentic.

When we live our lives by the hand of God, we can better understand the circumstances and crises of our existence, and we can live with spiritual strength through the moments of pain, loss or disappointment….

When it seems to us that our faith is breaking, it is then when prayer and thanksgiving envelops us in Christian joy.  The power is not ours—God makes it possible.  In this marvelous practice, the Holy Spirit works in liberation and real miracles that would not be possible otherwise.

Inside of us there is an amazing capacity that the Spirit reveals:  listening and attending to his voice, which is freely manifested.  We can take advantage of our time to praise God, listening for God’s voice in every corner of this world, even during hopelessness.  Without a doubt, God’s voice will invite us to lift ourselves up and gratefully sing of the miracle of being alive and being God’s sons and daughters.

Prayer:  Lord, may we thank you in each moment as you desire.  We ask you to affirm our steps along the walk of faith.  Amen.

EL PODER DE LA ALABANZA
   1   TESALONICENSES  5: 16-18

I Tesalonicenses 5:18

Tuesday, January 15 HOW TO ENJOY THE YEARS OF OUR LIVES? 2 CORINTHIANS 4:13-18

Tuesday, January 15
HOW TO ENJOY THE SPAN OF OUR LIVES?
            2 CORINTHIANS 4:13-18

The glory of young men is their strength;
Gray hair the splendor of the old.    (NIV)

Proverbs 20:29

Since we were born God grants us a space that spans all our spiritual and physical life; and this extends until the last moment of our terrestrial life. It’s a private, personal, and unique right that nothing and no one should interfere with, given that it’s personal and a gift from God.  It’s beyond age or a determined circumstance.

When we consider ourselves worthless because of our age, our mind works accordingly, then logically we’re more dependent and unhappier.

The Apostle Paul said, “Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”  (2 Corinthians 4:16)

It helps to maintain vitality, freshness and motivation. to preserve optimism and good spirit to be able to serve as we may and respect our own space and that of others. These qualities can be seen reflected in our bodies, making us display a greater presence marked by love and joy, which are the source of full life.

Prayer:  May we enjoy our years in your name.  May we be able to confront the challenges of our present time with faith and optimism. May our faces show the thankfulness for the years you have permitted us to live, Amen.

¿CÓMO DISFRUTAR DE NUESTRO ESPACIO DE VIDA?
            2 CORINTIOS  4: 13-18
La gloria de los jóvenes es su fuerza;
la belleza de los ancianos, su vejez
Proverbios 20:29

Monday, January 14 Anniversary of the La Fernanda Church WHAT IS IT TO BE GOOD? MATTHEW 19:16-21

Monday, January 14
Anniversary of the La Fernanda Church

WHAT IS IT TO BE GOOD?
MATTHEW 19:16-21

“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied,
“There is only One who is good.
If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”   (NIV)

Matthew 19:17

To be good is to deny oneself, to think of others; it’s to always forgive, thinking that human
frailty is greater than malevolence. It’s to pity other’s weakness, thinking that we too are weak, and that in their circumstances we would have done worse.

Goodness is to close one’s eyes before external ingratitude.  It’s to give, although one receives nothing in return. It’s sacrificing oneself, adding to the weight of our pains the pains of others. It’s to choke off our sorrow and to constantly smile at others who suffer.  It’s to accept the unpleasant fact that the more that we may give the more will be asked of us. To be good is to agree to having nothing for ourselves; only joy and the peace of a tranquil conscience. It’s to recognize with honesty that the only thing truly good is God, our Lord.

Prayer:  Only you are good, God of grace and love. May we be able to see in our fellow man the goodness you see in us. Amen.

Aniversario de la Iglesia en La Fernanda

¿QUÉ ES SER BUENO?
MATEO 19:16-21

Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me dices bueno?
Ninguno hay bueno sino solo uno, Dios.
Mas si quieres entrar en la vida,
guarda los mandamientos
Mateo 19:17
