Second Sunday of Advent

EVERYONE WILL SEE GOD’S SALVATION

Luke  3:1-6

”Lead me O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.”

Psalm 5:8 NRSV

            The Word of God and the concrete reality in which the believer lives are inseparable. There is no authentic preaching or genuine salvation  without considering the world in which we live. It is no coincidence then that Luke frames the Baptist’s preaching in the real world of his day.

            The Gospel reading for this second Sunday of Advent  calls us, in the words of John the Baptist, to prepare “the way of the Lord,” which is already near. The question today would be: what should I do to welcome Jesus into my heart when he comes? What aspects of my personal life need to be straightened, filled in and leveled? What am I doing to achieve it?

            Preparing is synonymous with converting. Who does not change cannot be a witness to the coming of Jesus Christ. Let us walk towards the encounter with the Lord, without  distancing ourselves or escaping from the world today. Let us always be ready to reorient our lives so that we can see the salvation that God has prepared for us.

 

Prayer: Lord, give me the strength I need to straighten my path, build bridges, and open tunnels, to see the salvation you promise us in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Segundo Domingo de Adviento

TODOS VERÁN LA SALVACIÓN DE DIOS

Lucas  3:1-6

“Guíame, Señor, en tu justicia… endereza tu camino delante de mí”

Salmo 5:8

            La Palabra de Dios y la realidad concreta en la que vive el creyente son inseparables, no hay una auténtica predicación ni una genuina salvación sin tomar en cuenta el mundo en el cual vivimos. No es casual entonces que Lucas enmarque la predicación del Bautista en el mundo real de su época.

            El evangelio de este segundo domingo de Adviento nos llama, en palabras de Juan el Bautista, a preparar “el camino del Señor”, que ya está cerca. La pregunta hoy sería: ¿qué debo hacer para acoger en mi corazón a Jesús cuando venga? ¿Qué aspectos en mi vida personal requieren ser enderezados, rellenados y nivelados? ¿Qué estoy haciendo para lograrlo?

            Prepararse es sinónimo de convertirse, quien no cambia no puede ser testigo de la venida de Jesucristo. Caminemos hacia el encuentro con el Señor, sin alejarnos o escapar del mundo en que vivimos hoy, pero dispuestos siempre a reorientar la vida para que podamos ver la salvación que Dios nos tiene preparada.

 

Oración: Señor, dame la fuerza que necesito para enderezar mi camino, tender puentes, excavar colinas y abrir túneles, para ver la salvación que tú nos prometes en Cristo Jesús. Amén.
