THE CHRIST OF CHRISTMAS

Luke 2:21-24, 39-40

…they gave him the name Jesus.  This was the name given to him by the angel before he was conceived.

            The story of the birth of Jesus has become so well known for most of us that we read it without showing surprise at the miracle that it was. If we treat the Christmas story like something trite, how will we transmit its true significance to those around us, to our children, to our friends, neighbors and family members?  

            The Christmas story offers a unique opportunity to speak of Christ in a very natural way.  The majority of our friends and family members know that at Christmas we celebrate the birth of Christ. It may be that they focus on the gifts or the Christmas Eve dinner, but behind all of this is the reminder that Christmas evokes Christ. 

            Each time we find ourselves with the story of Christmas, we have the opportunity to make a conscious decision to highlight Christ. We can explain briefly how the birth of Jesus forms part of the larger story of God’s redemption. The context of this date also invites us to pray and to simply recognize Christ as the center of Christmas, and obedience should follow it. 

 

Prayer: I ask you, God, to reveal to me once again the miracle of the story of Christmas. Help me to transmit your love through Jesus this Christmas.  Amen.

EL CRISTO DE LA NAVIDAD

Lucas 2:21-24, 39-40

            La historia del nacimiento de Jesús ha llegado a ser tan conocida para la mayoría de nosotros que la leemos sin mostrar asombro por lo milagroso que fue. Si tratamos la historia de la Navidad como algo trillado ¿Cómo trasmitiremos su verdadero significado a aquellos que nos rodean, a nuestros hijos, a nuestras amistades, vecinos y familiares?

            La historia de la Navidad ofrece una oportunidad única de hablar de Cristo de una manera muy natural. La mayoría de nuestras amistades y familiares sabe que en la Navidad se festeja el nacimiento de Cristo. Puede que se centren en los regalos, la comida de Noche Buena, pero detrás de todo eso está el recuerdo de la Navidad que evoca a Cristo.

            Cada vez que nos encontramos con la historia de la Navidad, tenemos la oportunidad de tomar la decisión consciente de resaltar a Cristo. Podemos explicar brevemente cómo el nacimiento de Jesús forma parte de la historia más grande de la redención de Dios. El contexto de esta fecha también nos invita a orar y reconocer simplemente a Cristo como el centro de la Navidad, y la obediencia debida al seguirle.

 

Oración: Te pido Dios, que me reveles de nuevo la maravilla de la historia de la Navidad. Ayúdame a transmitir tu amor por Jesús en  esta Navidad. Amén.
