CHRISTMAS EVE

Luke 2: 1-7

Since Joseph belonged to David’s house and family line, he went up from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to David’s city, called Bethlehem, in Judea. He went to be enrolled together with Mary, who was promised to him in marriage and who was pregnant.

            Our Christmas Eve celebrations are part of a tradition we have inherited. Christmas is a fount of happiness and optimism, and of future safety.  Well, God, our Father, did not disappoint humanity, but with the birth of Jesus Christ he confirms his promise of salvation for humanity. 

            But let us remember that neither for Joseph nor Mary were the pre-natal days a time for rejoicing. An annoying trip from Nazareth in order to comply with the census decreed by the Roman empire. For a climax, they could not even find lodging when they got to Bethlehem.  Nevertheless, the evangelist does not describe any bitterness, resentment or sadness on the part of the protagonists in this story. 

            Celebrate Christmas!  Fill your house with love and joy. Christmas is already here; it is a feast of optimism that is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Something great is occurring among the incomprehensible avatars of history, but God has control, and the future is in God’s hands.  Redemption is ever closer.

 

Prayer: Thank you God, for the birth of your beloved Son, Jesus. Bless us and make these days of Christmas days of love, happiness, peace and promise from you and from your Kingdom of justice.  Amen.

LA NOCHE BUENA

Lucas 2: 1-7

José… tuvo que ir a Belén… para inscribirse con María que estaba desposada con él y estaba encinta

Lucas 2:4-5

            Celebramos Noche Buena como parte de una tradición heredada, La navidad es fuente de alegría y optimismo. y de la seguridad en el futuro, pues Dios, nuestro Padre, no defraudó a la humanidad, sino que con el nacimiento de Jesucristo confirma el compromiso por la salvación de la humanidad.

            Pero recordemos que ni para José ni María el tiempo previo fue motivo de regocijo. Un viaje molesto desde Nazaret para cumplir con un censo decretado por el imperio romano. Para colmos, ni siquiera pueden encontrar alojamiento al llegar a Belén. No obstante, el evangelista no detalla ninguna amargura, resentimiento o tristeza en los protagonistas de esta historia.

            ¡Festeja la Navidad! llena tu casa de amor y de gozo. La Navidad ya viene, es una fiesta de optimismo que se realiza en Jesucristo. Algo grande está ocurriendo tras los avatares incomprensibles de la historia, pero Dios tiene el control, el futuro está en sus manos. La redención está más cerca.

 

Oración: Gracias Dios, por el nacimiento de tu amado Hijo Jesús. Bendícenos y permite que estas Navidades sean de amor, de alegría, de paz y de compromiso hacia ti y hacia tu Reino de justicia. Amén.
