GOD PROMISES YOU

Genesis 9: 8-15

I have placed my bow in the clouds; it will be the symbol of the covenant between me and the earth.

            When God speaks to Noah when the rainbow had come down, God sends Noah and his family out to multiply anew, to reproduce and inhabit and fill the earth. But through this dramatic experience, maybe many will be in doubt about establishing a family due to the possibility of floods threatening survival again. But the Biblical narrator gives us the divine promise through which God promises not to destroy the land by floods ever again.

            God makes a covenant. This term is used time and again to speak of the relationship between God and the Israelites. God sympathizes with humanity, his creation, and takes the initiative to have again the sense of divine purpose in creating the world and having a special relationship with human beings who God has created in God’s image and likeness. Yes, God promises and then fulfills the promise for our wellbeing.

            Thus, even in the midst of the chaos we see today, in the midst of the presence of evil and the real injustices in today’s world, let us not assume as others do that divine destruction is the remedy for these situations, but let us commit ourselves to the good and to being active instruments in the hands of this God of the covenant. 

 

Prayer: We want to put ourselves in your service, Lord, in the best way that we can, according to your will.  Amen.

DIOS SE COMPROMETE

Génesis 9: 8-15

He puesto mi arco en las nubes, el cual servirá como señal de mi pacto con la tierra

Génesis 9:13

            Cuando Dios habla a Noé una vez que han descendido del arca, les manda que se multipliquen de nuevo, que crezcan, se reproduzcan y habiten y llenen la tierra. Pero tras una experiencia tan dramática, quizás muchos se vieran en la duda de establecer una familia si la posibilidad de inundaciones amenazaría la sobrevivencia. Pero el narrador bíblico nos deja la promesa divina por la cual Dios se compromete a no destruir más la tierra por agua.

            Dios hace un “pacto”. Este es el vocablo que se emplea una y otra vez para hablar de la alianza entre Dios y la nación  israelita. Dios se compadece de la humanidad, de su creación, y toma la iniciativa para que vuelva a tener sentido el propósito divino de crear el mundo y de tener una relación especial con el ser humano, a quien ha creado a su imagen y semejanza. Sí, Dios se compromete, y lo hace para nuestro bien.

            Así pues, aun en medio de tanto caos que vemos hoy en día, de la presencia del mal y de la injusticia reales en nuestro mundo de hoy, no asumamos como hacen algunos que la destrucción divina es el remedio a tales situaciones, más bien comprometámonos por el bien y por ser activos instrumentos en manos de este Dios del pacto.

 

Oración: Queremos ponernos a tu servicio, Señor, en la mejor manera que podamos, acorde a tu voluntad. Amén.
