SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Matthew 10:17-24

A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above the master

            I remember that a classmate once told me, “I only trust in material goods.” In that moment, I thought of all the people who say we are Christians, we for years have attended Church religiously and we know the commandments very well, but often give more importance to the material life than the spiritual life. What do we do when the Lord calls and says to us, “Leave everything, the easy life, the life without sacrifice; take up your cross and trust more in me?”

            Don’t we do as the rich young man did, go away with our heads hung, rich in goods but poor in spirit? Don’t we act worse than other persons who are not Christians, by accomodating ourselves in our daily lives?

            Christ directs us. We know that the life that he asks us to live isn’t easy. We know that the cross is not light; on the contrary, the cross is rough and heavy. He asks us daily to place more faith in God. It is up to us to accept it, to be able to display vividly that our first love is not the goods of the world, but rather that we have faith in Him knowing that every day brings its own eagerness, remembering his promise of living an abundant life with Him.

            He asks a lot, but he gives us a lot. Let’s commit our lives in sacrificial living.

 

Prayer: Father, open our eyes that we may be able to see how great your power is and the care that you take of us. Amen.

BUSCAD PRIMERAMENTE EL REINO DE DIOS

Mateo 10:17-24

El discípulo no es más que su maestro; ni el siervo más que su señor.

Mateo 10:24

            Recuerdo que en una ocasión un compañero de clases me dijo: “Yo solo confío en los bienes materiales”. En ese momento pensé en todos los que decimos ser cristianos, que por años hemos asistido religiosamente a la Iglesia y nos sabemos muy bien los mandamientos, pero muchas veces le damos más importancia a la vida material  que a la vida espiritual. ¿Qué hacemos cuando el Señor llama y nos dice: Deja todo, la vida fácil, la vida sin sacrificio, toma tu cruz y confía más en mí?

            ¿Acaso muchas veces no hacemos como el joven rico, nos vamos con la cabeza baja , tristes, ricos materialmente pero pobres en espíritu? ¿Acaso muchas veces no actuamos peor que otras personas  que no son cristianas acomodándonos en nuestra vida diaria?

            Cristo nos reta. Sabemos que la vida que Él nos pide que llevemos no es fácil, sabemos que su cruz  no es liviana; todo lo contrario, es una cruz tosca y pesada. Él nos pide a diario más confianza en Dios. Está en nosotros el aceptar eso, en poder mostrar vivamente que nuestro primer amor no son los bienes de la tierra, sino que confiamos en Él sabiendo que cada día traerá su propio afán, recordando su promesa de vivir con Él una vida abundante.

            Él demanda mucho, pero nos da mucho. Entreguemos nuestras vidas en sacrificio vivo.

 

Oración: Padre, abre nuestros ojos para que podamos ver cuán grande es tu poder y el cuidado que tienes de nosotros. Amén.
