KNEELING FOR A JUST CAUSE

Mark 14: 32-41

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.  (NIV)

Ephesians 3:14,16

            We all adore someone or something. We all bend our knees. Luther said, “He who does not adore the true and living God will adore an idol.” We all surrender our will, either to a just cause or an unjust one, but we all are, although we may not accept it, defending some cause.      

            We all pray for something. Because to pray is not the enunciation of a sentence, or the body’s posture. Prayer is, finally, that which we desire with all our heart. Our most intimate desires constitute our prayers. They can be good or ignoble, just as our intentions can be noble or unworthy. No one can confront life’s tasks without having wishes and desires. They can be inconsequential desires, desires without greater seriousness or importance.

            Let us pray! Bend our knees! But let us do it before God, our Lord Jesus Christ, for just causes, encouraged by the best intentions and desires. Let us ask much of God, that we may bend our knees for that which, according to his will and not ours, may mean the greatest good for others, for ourselves and for all of his creation.

 

Prayer: O eternal God, may you hear the prayers raised before you in the name of Christ and in your spirit. Make us capable of understanding all of life in terms of the most noble desires, of the most just causes and most serious motivations. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DE RODILLAS POR CAUSA JUSTA

Marcos 14: 32-41

Me arrodillo delante del Padre… para que les dé, conforme a las riquezas de su gloria, el ser fortalecidos en el hombre interior por su Espíritu.

Efesios 3:14,16

            Todos adoramos a alguien o a algo. Todos doblamos nuestras rodillas. Lutero decía: “El que no adora al verdadero y viviente Dios, adorará a un ídolo”. Todos rendimos nuestra voluntad, o bien a una causa justa o a una injusta, pero todos estamos, aunque no lo aceptemos, defendiendo alguna causa.

            Todos oramos por algo. Porque orar no es la enunciación de una frase, o la postura del cuerpo. La oración es, en última instancia, lo que deseamos con todo nuestro corazón. Nuestros deseos más íntimos constituyen nuestras oraciones. Estos pueden ser buenos o innobles, así como nuestras intenciones pueden ser nobles o indignas. Nadie puede enfrentarse a la tarea de la vida sin tener anhelos y deseos. Pueden ser deseos intrascendentes, anhelos sin mayor seriedad e importancia.

            ¡Oremos! ¡Doblemos nuestras rodillas! Pero hagámoslo ante el Dios de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, por causas justas, animados con la mejor intención, y los mejores deseos. Pidamos mucho a Dios que podamos doblar nuestras rodillas por aquello que, según su voluntad y no la nuestra,  pueda significar el mayor bien para otros, para nosotros y para toda su creación.
