CALLED TO ACTION

Revelation 3:1-6; 14-22

Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking;

Revelation 3:20a (NRSV)

            In chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation we find messages to seven churches. For each one there are praises, criticisms and then instructions and promises.

            At the church in Sardis some members are recognized for still maintaining their faith, but it is a dead church. They are called to repentance and to revive what continues to correspond with the spirit of love, faith and service. For the church in Laodicea there are no good words. This was a community located in a prosperous city. In contrast to their riches in material things, their spirituality had become totally poor. She (the church) is characterized by inertia, lack of action, and indifference before the challenges that living the gospel implied, she was neither “cold nor hot”.

            These texts from Revelation call us to reflection, to review how we are and what we do as a Christian community, called to transform human beings and the society where we live. We should ask ourselves: do we remain lukewarm, without having any effect on the fight against sin and evil? Or, like the church of Sardis, are we dead? Are we a church trapped in the Sunday routine, without major consequences on our environment? How much active commitment do we show as followers of Jesus? Let us respond to these questions with faith and works.

Prayer: Lord, strengthen our faith in such a way that it will be translated into works which transform our reality. Amen.

LLAMADOS A LA ACCION

Apocalipsis 3:1-6; 14-22

He aquí, yo estoy a la puerta y llamo

Apocalipsis 3:20a
