Ascension Sunday

THE ASSENT

Luke 24:46-53

While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven.

Luke 24:51(NRSV)

            Jesus began to ascend into the air and soon disappeared in the sky while the disciples stayed watching. To see Jesus leave had to have been terrible, even with his promise of being with them through the Holy Spirit.

            This same Jesus, who lived with the disciples, who died and was raised from the dead, loves us and has promised to be with us always. We can continue to know him better through the study of the Scriptures, through prayer and through the Holy Spirit who helps us to be like Jesus. When his physical presence abandoned the disciples, very soon the Holy Spirit came to console them and give them the power that they needed to spread the good news of salvation.

            Today, the redemptive work of Jesus is complete and He is seated on the throne of God possessing all authority in heaven and on earth. The gospel of Luke describes it like the perfect example of a life conformed to God’s plan from his birth, a life lived in obedience to his parents until the acceptance of his suffering on the cross.

            As believers who live according to God’s plan, we should also obey our Lord in every detail, in our concern to restore people so that they will have the health and salvation of God that has been reserved for them. If we want to know how to have a perfect life, we look at Jesus as our example.

 

Prayer: Beloved Father, teach us to follow your example and to be guided by the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Ascensión

EL ASCENSO

Lucas 24:46-53

... y mientras los bendecía, se apartó de ellos y fue llevado al cielo.

Lucas 24:51

            Jesús empezó a ascender en el aire y pronto desapareció en el cielo mientras los discípulos se quedaban mirando. Ver partir a Jesús debió haber sido terrible, aun con la promesa de estar con ellos a través del Espíritu Santo.

            Este mismo Jesús, que vivió con los discípulos, que murió y resucitó de entre los muertos, nos ama y ha prometido estar con nosotros siempre. Podemos conocerle cada vez más, mediante el estudio de las Escrituras, de la oración y por medio del Espíritu Santo que nos ayuda a ser como Él. Cuando su presencia física abandonó a los discípulos, el Espíritu Santo llegó muy pronto para consolarles y darles el poder que necesitaban para esparcir las buenas nuevas de salvación.

            Hoy, la obra de redención de Jesús está consumada y Él está sentado a la diestra de Dios donde posee toda autoridad, en el cielo y en la tierra. El Evangelio de Lucas lo describe como el ejemplo perfecto de una vida conforme al plan de Dios, desde su niñez vivida en obediencia a sus padres hasta la aceptación del sufrimiento en la cruz.

            Como creyentes que vivimos de acuerdo al plan de Dios, también debiéramos obedecer a nuestro Señor en cada detalle, en nuestra preocupación de restaurar a las personas para que tengan la sanidad y la salvación de Dios que les está reservada. Si queremos saber cómo tener una vida perfecta, miremos a Jesús como nuestro ejemplo.

 

Oración: Padre amado, enséñanos a seguir tu ejemplo y a ser guiados por tu Espíritu Santo. Amén.
