THE PEACE OF GOD

John 14:23-29

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.(NIV)

John 14:27

            As the disciples continued to hope that Jesus would establish an earthly kingdom and overthrow Rome, it was difficult for them to understand why he was not telling the world that he was the Messiah. However, not everyone could understand Jesus’ message. Since Pentecost, the gospel of the kingdom had been proclaimed in the entire world, and even so, not everyone was receptive to it. Jesus kept his most profound revelations for those who loved and obeyed him.

            Jesus promised the disciples that the Holy Spirit would help them to remember what he taught them. The disciples were witnesses of the life and teachings of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit helped them without omitting their individual perspectives. We can trust that the Holy Spirit can help us in the same way.

            The final result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives is a profound and enduring peace, which is different from the world’s peace whose definition generally means the absence of conflict. This peace is a trusted security in any circumstance. With Christ’s peace we have no reason to fear the present or the future. If if your life is full of tension, let the Holy Spirit fill it with Christ’s peace.

            Sin, fear, insecurity, doubt and many other forces like to war within us. God’s peace enters our hearts with the end of stemming these hostile forces and offer comfort instead of conflict. Jesus tells us he will give us this peace if we were willing to accept it.

 

Prayer: Lord, give us that peace that comes from you, and that the world does not know. Amen.

LA PAZ DE DIOS

Juan 14:23-29

Les dejo la paz. Les doy mi paz, pero no se la doy como la dan los que son del mundo. No se   angustien ni tengan miedo.

            Como los discípulos seguían esperando que Jesús estableciese un reino terrenal y derrocase a Roma, les resultaba difícil entender por qué no le decía al mundo en general que Él era el Mesías. Sin embargo, no todos podían entender el mensaje de Jesús. Desde Pentecostés, el Evangelio del Reino se ha proclamado en el mundo entero y aun así no todos son receptivos al mismo. Jesús guarda las revelaciones más profundas de su persona para quienes lo aman y le obedecen.

            Jesús prometió a los discípulos que el Espíritu Santo los ayudaría a recordar lo que Él les enseñó. Los discípulos fueron testigos de la vida y las enseñanzas de Jesús, y el Espíritu Santo los ayudó  sin omitir sus perspectivas individuales. Podemos confiar en que el Espíritu Santo puede ayudarnos de la misma manera.

            El resultado final de la obra del Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas es una paz profunda y duradera. A diferencia de la paz del mundo, cuya definición suele ser ausencia de conflicto, esta paz es una confiada seguridad en cualquier circunstancia; con la paz de Cristo, no tenemos por qué temer al presente ni al futuro. Si su vida está cargada de tensión, permita que el Espíritu Santo lo llene de la paz de Cristo.

            El pecado, el temor, la inseguridad, la duda y muchas otras fuerzas suelen estar en guerra en nosotros. La paz de Dios entra a nuestros corazones a fin de frenar estas fuerzas hostiles y ofrecer consuelo en lugar de conflicto. Jesús dice que nos dará esa paz si estamos dispuestos a aceptarla.

 

Oración: Señor, danos esa paz que viene de ti y que el mundo no conoce. Amén.
