COMPASSION

Luke 6:12-19

Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’

Matthew 9:13a (NRSV)

            Compassion is worth more than great sacrifices. Accepting this was the most difficult thing for the Pharisees. Without doubt they made many sacrifices and expected much of themselves, but they were also very hard on others. Whoever did not comply with their regulations was rejected. Perhaps we can see the same thing in ourselves, because we know how to criticize and analyze as well as how to demand.

            What is the conclusion to all of this? How often we believe that it is the other person who must change! We can learn a lot from this bible verse because it teaches us the importance of compassion. With that a lot of problems can be solved.

            Having compassion for others means sharing their problems and sufferings. We may not be able to solve all problems instantly, but it is possible to give hope. We often want to solve problems with a formula or by proposing our solutions, but perhaps we haven’t been able to accomplish anything of good. Having compassion means that we recognize that we can’t fix everything, nor do we have the correct response to every question, but rather that we are together with others in the process of learning. The object of this learning is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That same Gospel also provides witness to the divine compassion who decided to share with us his his life, suffering and dying in this world.

 

Prayer: Merciful and compassionate God, let us always have compassion for those around us. Amen.

COMPASIÓN

Lucas 6:12-19

Vayan y aprendan el significado de esta Escritura: lo que quiero es que sean compasivos, y no que ofrezcan sacrificios

Mateo 9:13a

            Compasión vale más que grandes sacrificios. Aceptar esto fue lo más difícil para los fariseos. Sin duda, ellos hacían muchos sacrificios y exigieron mucho de sí mismos, pero fueron muy duros también con los demás. Quien no cumplía con sus reglamentos era rechazado. Tal vez podamos observar la misma actitud también entre nosotros, porque sabemos criticar y analizar, también sabemos exigir.

            ¿Cuál es la conclusión a todo esto? ¡Que muchas veces creemos que el otro es quien tiene que cambiar! De este versículo bíblico podemos aprender  mucho, porque él nos enseña  de lo importante de la  compasión. Con ella se pueden solucionar muchos problemas.

            Tener compasión por otros es compartir sus problemas y sufrimientos. No podremos solucionar problemas al instante, pero se puede dar esperanza. Muchas veces queremos solucionar las cosas con recetas o haciendo propuestas, pero tal vez no hemos podido hacer nada bueno. Tener  compasión significa reconocer  que nosotros no podemos solucionar todo, tampoco tenernos para cada pregunta la respuesta adecuada, sino que estamos junto con  los demás en el proceso de aprendizaje. El objetivo de este aprendizaje es el Evangelio de Jesucristo. El mismo evangelio nos brinda también el testimonio sobre la compasión divina que decidió compartir toda su vida con nosotros sufriendo y muriendo en este mundo.

 

Oración: Dios misericordioso y compasivo, permite que siempre podamos tener compasión hacia los que nos rodean. Amén.
