WHAT A MIRACLE!

Psalm 104:1-12

You set the earth on its foundations…

            God is the regulating presence of the laws of the Universe. Today, however, many believe that when God intervenes a miracle occurs, that when God’s action is evident, the natural rhythm of the world is broken.

            Harry Emerson Fosdick asked himself, “How can God shape the course of nature and of history without intervening in that which is his and is under his absolute sovereignty?” He explained it thus: “Think about what we call a miracle not necessarily requiring a breaking of the laws of nature. Plant a stone next to any seed. The law for the stone is to remain inert, while that of the seed is to germinate. If the stone could see the seed germinate and could express its amazement, it would probably say What a miracle! However, that is not in itself the law of nature being broken.”

            God’s providence never presumes a breaking of the laws of nature which God himself has established. If we can’t understand that, it is because we are not properly familiarized with science as one of God’s instruments for the benefit of humanity. The human being knows very few laws in comparison with those which still remain to be known. Science is a declaration of what we have learned so far. What remains for us to know is also a science that comes from God and is regulated by laws established by Him.

 

Prayer: Lord, lift our thoughts to You who are always higher than our thoughts and help us to know what we must. In Jesus Christ, Amen.

¡VAYA MILAGRO!

Salmo 104:1-12

Él fundó la tierra sobre sus cimientos…

            Dios es la presencia reguladora de las leyes del Universo. Hoy, sin embargo, muchos creen que cuando Dios interviene ocurre un milagro, que cuando es evidente la acción de Dios, se quebranta el ritmo natural del mundo.

            Harry Emerson Fosdick se preguntaba: ¿Cómo puede Dios moldear el curso de la  naturaleza y de la historia sin intervenir en lo que es suyo y está bajo su absoluta soberanía? Y lo explica así: “Pensad en que lo que llamamos milagro no requiere necesariamente un quebrantamiento de las leyes naturales. Siembra una piedra junto a cualquier semilla. La ley de la piedra es permanecer inerte, mientras que la de la semilla es germinar. Si la piedra pudiera ver a la semilla germinar, y pudiera expresar su asombro, probablemente diría: ¡Vaya milagro! Sin embargo, no por eso se rompe la ley natural”.

            La providencia de Dios jamás supone un quebrantamiento de las leyes naturales que Él mismo ha establecido. Si no comprendemos es porque no estamos debidamente familiarizados con la ciencia como instrumento de Dios para beneficio de la humanidad. El ser humano conoce muy pocas leyes en comparación con las que le quedan todavía por conocer. La ciencia es una declaración de lo que hemos comprendido hasta ahora. Lo que nos queda por conocer es también ciencia que proviene de Dios y está regulada por leyes establecidas por Él.

 

Oración: Señor, eleva nuestros pensamientos hacia Ti que estás por encima de nuestros pensamientos, y haznos conocer lo que debemos. Por Jesucristo. Amén.
