WHO ARE MY MOTHER AND MY SISTERS?

Mark 3: 20-35

Whoever does God’s will is my brother, sister and mother. (NIV)

Mark 3:35

It is likely that, driven by the anxiety caused by Jesus’ situation and that of his disciples, his mother and brothers look for him to take him home, being worried about him.

In this context, Jesus asks a question, which is not a repudiation of family relationships, but rather is qualitatively focused, highlighting the deepest meaning of the relationship that a person can have with him. His answer leads us to a reinterpretation of family ties from obedience and following the Kingdom of God. Jesus is not denying his family, he is taking the opportunity to share an essential message. Jesus expands his affectionate, family relationship with those who identify with his ministry, adding to his emotional core those who seek the will of his Father. He highlights the value of community: a community that joins other believers of the faith to be family.

Prayer: Thank you God, for family, community, for the opportunity to walk together in faith as a family. Amen.

¿QUIÉN ES MI MADRE Y MIS HERMANOS?

Marcos 3: 20-35
