THE GOLDEN RULE

Matthew  7: 6,12-14

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

How much would our world change if we could apply the teachings of this text in an effective way?

In the text, we are invited to treat others as we like to be treated. This leads us to practice divine justice. It leads us to solidarity, to seek an equity that we must try to maintain from the place where God has called us to serve, to repair the damage caused, and to maintain good relationships with others everywhere. Jesus invites us to put ourselves in the shoes of others with whom we relate. So, when we need to take action or make a decision, we must ask ourselves: Is this how I want things to happen for me? Is this how I want others to treat me?

 

Prayer: God of life, allow us to establish relationships of love, peace, and solidarity with others, always keeping in mind the teaching of this golden rule that you have given us. Amen.

REGLA DE ORO

Mateo  7: 6,12-14

Así que en todo traten ustedes a los demás tal y como quieren que ellos los traten a ustedes. De hecho, esto es la Ley y los Profetas

¿Cuánto cambiaría nuestro mundo si pudiéramos aplicar de forma efectiva la enseñanza de este texto?

En el texto se nos invita a tratar a los demás como nos gusta que nos traten. Esto nos lleva a practicar la justicia divina. Esa que nos conduce a la solidaridad, a buscar la equidad que debemos tratar de mantener desde el lugar donde Dios nos ha llamado a servir, a reparar los daños causados y mantener buenas relaciones con las demás personas en todo lugar. Jesús nos invita a ponernos en los zapatos de aquellas personas con las cuales nos relacionamos. Por eso cuando necesitemos tomar una acción o una decisión debemos preguntarnos: ¿Es así como quiero que sucedan las cosas conmigo? ¿Es así como quiero que me traten los demás?

 

Oración: Dios de la vida, permite que podamos establecer relaciones de amor, paz y solidaridad con las otras personas, teniendo siempre presente la enseñanza de esta regla de oro que nos has brindado. Amén.
