LET US PRACTICE JUSTICE

Matthew 5: 17-19

For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. (NIV)

Matthew 5:20

The Pharisees had a bad habit of discarding texts that they felt did not apply, difficult passages that created discomfort. They pretended to have reverence for the Word of God, but they did not submit to its demands and did not live according to its teachings.

Jesus is questioning them. Although their hearts were not right, the people wondered if anyone’s righteousness could surpass the apparently “rigorous” compliance of the scribes and Pharisees.

A sincere, transparent, and profound obedience is about justice. Be consistent with what you believe and share. Teaching and being fair is saying and doing, ensuring what is just around us, being part of that action, this is collaborating and belonging to the Kingdom of God.

 

Prayer: Lord, we want to be instruments and channels of justice. Help us to practice what is right every day, to act responsibly in our faith, and in community. Amen.

PRACTIQUEMOS LA JUSTICIA.

Mateo 5: 17-19

Porque les digo a ustedes, que no van a entrar en el reino de los cielos a menos que su justicia supere a la de los fariseos y de los maestros de la ley.

Los fariseos tenían el mal hábito de desechar textos que ellos sentían que no se aplicaban, pasajes difíciles que creaban un malestar. Ellos fingían tener reverencia por la Palabra de Dios, pero no se sometían a sus demandas y no vivían en acuerdo con sus enseñanzas. Jesús los está cuestionando. Aunque sus corazones no estaban bien, la gente se preguntaba si la justicia de alguien podía rebasar el cumplimiento aparentemente “riguroso” de los escribas y fariseos.

Se trata de una justicia, una obediencia sincera, transparente y profunda. Ser consecuente con lo que creemos, compartimos. Es, decir y hacer, eso es enseñar y ser justos. Velar por lo justo a nuestro alrededor, ser parte de esa acción, esto es colaborar y pertenecer al reino de Dios.

 

Oración: Señor, queremos ser instrumentos y canal de justicia. Ayúdanos a practicar lo que es justo cada día, en actuar con responsabilidad de nuestra fe, y en comunidad. Amén.
