GLASS ROOF

1 Corinthians 4: 1-5

I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me

1 Corinthians 4:4 (NRSV)

We Cubans love to cite sayings or expressions in a figurative sense. That’s the case with this saying: The one who has a glass roof shouldn’t throw stones at his neighbor.

This expression means that we shouldn’t be judging or talking about those around us because we also commit sins and disobedience to God despite the two great commandments to love God and to love our neighbor. No one is righteous in himself. Only Christ was completely righteous. When we believe in the Lord Jesus we receive his righteousness and thus come to be acceptable in God’s eyes.

No one can be righteous by his own strength or by good works. We can only come to be justified by repenting of our sins and turning to Christ in faith.

Therefore, when God justifies us, God declares that we are righteous. God frees us from the sting of sin, forgives us completely, and then we have peace with God.

 

Prayer: Lord, don’t let my heart judge my neighbor. Amen.

TECHO DE VIDRIO

1 CORINTIOS 4: 1-5

Porque, aunque de nada tengo mala conciencia no por eso soy justificado, Pero el que me juzga es Dios.

1 Corintios 4ː4

Nosotros los cubanos gustamos decir dichos o expresiones en sentido figurado, tal es el caso de este dicho: «El que tiene el techo de vidrio, no puede tirar piedras al vecino».

Esta expresión quiere decir que nosotros no debemos de estar juzgando o hablando de los demás porque nosotros también cometemos pecados y desobedecemos a Dios a través de dos grandes mandamientos, de amar a Dios y amar a nuestro prójimo. Nadie es justo en sí mismo. Sólo Cristo fue completamente justo. Cuando creemos en el Señor Jesús recibimos su justicia y así llegamos a ser aceptable a los ojos de Dios.

Nadie puede ser justo por su propio esfuerzo o por las buenas obras. Solamente podemos llegar a ser justo al arrepentirnos de los pecados y volver a Cristo por fe.

Por tanto, cuando Dios nos justifica declara que somos justos. Él nos libra del castigo del pecado, nos perdona completamente, entonces tenemos paz con Dios.

 

Oración: Señor, no permitas que mi corazón juzgue al prójimo. Amén.
