A SPECIAL SABBATH

Luke 6:1-5

Then he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath.”

Luke 6:5 (NRSV)

THE DAY OF REST is the seventh day of the week. God created the universe in six days and then rested the seventh day.

The text tells us that, according to Jewish law, it was unlawful to pluck with one’s hands ears of corn from a neighbor’s harvest; but it was not lawful to do so on the Sabbath.

The Pharisees said that the harvest was prohibited on the Sabbath day. According to the Jews, no class of work could be carried out; they considered the plucking of ears of corn was a form of work. Thus they accused the disciples of breaking the law of the day of rest by plucking ears of corn because of their hunger.

God made the day of rest for human benefit, and not to add a burden. If one was hungry, he had a right to eat on that day, a day that is God’s creation at the disposal of all creation, not for bondage.

 

Prayer: Lord, give me the Sabbath as a day of mercy. Amen.

UN SABADO ESPECIAL

LUCAS 6:1-5

Y les decía: «Él Hijo del Hombre es Señor aún del día de Reposo».

Lucas 6:5

El DIA DE REPOSO es el séptimo día de la semana. Dios creó el universo en seis días y luego descansó el séptimo día.

El texto nos dice que, de acuerdo con la ley judía, era ilícito arrancar con las manos espigas de la cosecha del prójimo; pero no era lícito hacerlo en el día de reposo.

Los fariseos decían que la siega y estaba prohibido el día sábado. De acuerdo con los judíos no podían realizarse ninguna clase de trabajo, consideraban que él arrancar espigas era una forma de trabajo. Entonces acusaron a los discípulos de Jesús de quebrantar la ley del día de reposo porque por el hambre, estaban arrancando espigas.

Dios hizo la ley del reposo para beneficio del hombre y no para añadirle una carga. Si alguien tenía hambre, tenía derecho de comer en ese día.

Jesús enseñó que las obras por necesidad como satisfacción del hambre y la misericordia son lícitas en el día de reposo, dia que es creación de Dios en disposición de toda la creación, no para ataduras.
