A NEW CREATURE

1 Corinthians 5: 1-8

Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch … ( NIV)

1 Corinthians 5:7

We consider the words that appear in the text to be strong for the historical context in which these events take place. The church in Corinth had some Christians with inappropriate behavior, and that damaged its image.

Paul compares sin within the church with yeast in a dough.

He has mentioned that a little yeast leavens the whole dough, meaning then, that the sins that were being committed there would spread throughout the church, contaminating it.    

Paul exhorts: Cleanse yourselves, then, from the old leaven of sin and wickedness. Cleanse yourselves from the old leaven so that you may be a new dough, unleavened as you are.

He invites us to stop sinning, to throw out all the things that do not make us worthy of being called children of God; because with God’s forgiveness we have been made new spiritually and we are a new dough. Therefore, we should not give place to the old leaven of sin. If we sincerely repent of our sins, we will be a new creature in Christ Jesus.

 

Prayer:  Lord, cleanse me of all evil. Renew my faith. Amen.

NUEVA CRIATURA

1 CORINTIOS 5: 1-8

Limpiemos pues, de la vieja levadura, para que seáis nueva masa, sin levaduras como sois….

1 Corintios 5:7

Las palabras que aparecen en el texto las consideramos fuertes para el contexto histórico en que se desarrollan estos hechos; la Iglesia de Corintios tenía algunos cristianos con un comportamiento no adecuado y eso perjudicaba la imagen de la Iglesia.

Pablo compara el pecado dentro de la iglesia con la levadura en una masa.

Él ha mencionado que un poco de levadura leuda toda la masa, significa entonces, que los pecados que se estaban realizando allí se esparcirían por toda la Iglesia, contaminándola.

Pablo exhorta: Limpiaos, pues de la vieja levadura del pecado y la maldad. Limpiaos de la vieja levadura para que vosotros seáis nueva masa, sin levadura como sois.

Nos invita a que dejemos de pecar, que echemos afuera todas las cosas que no nos hacen ser dignos de llamarnos hijos de Dios; porque con el perdón de Dios hemos sido hechos nuevos espiritualmente y somos nueva masa; por tanto, no debiéramos dar lugar a la vieja levadura del pecado. Si nos arrepentimos sinceramente de nuestros pecados seremos nueva criatura en Cristo Jesús.

 

Oración: Señor, límpiame de toda maldad renueva mi fe. Amén.
