HUNGER AND THIRST FOR GOD

John 6: 30-35

I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 6:35 (NRSV)

Surrounding Jesus is a crowd that still had before their eyes the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, one of those moments that remained engraved in the eyes and hearts of the first community of disciples.  It was a feast, the feast of discovering God’s abundance and care for his children, united in the breaking and sharing of bread and fish, the shared meal.

The Lord came to give life to the world, and he does so despite the narrowness of our calculations, the mediocrity of our expectations and our superficiality. He is the living bread come down from heaven. That crowd also discovered that their hunger was not only for bread, but hunger for God, hunger for brotherhood, hunger for the shared feast.

The Lord exhorts us to walk toward Him in order to make us participants in his own life and his mission. Let us love one another experiencing the abundance of his love; let him quench our hunger and thirst.

 

Prayer: God, satisfy our “hungers:" our material and human shortcomings. Lord, satisfy our thirst. Amen.

HAMBRE Y SED DE DIOS

JUAN 6: 30-35

El que viene a mí no tendrá hambre, y el que cree en mí no tendrá sed jamás.

Juan 6:35

Alrededor de Jesús se encuentra una muchedumbre que tenía todavía delante de sus ojos la multiplicación de los panes y los peces, uno de esos momentos que quedaron grabados en los ojos y el corazón de la primera comunidad de discípulos. Fue una fiesta, la fiesta de descubrir la abundancia y solicitud de Dios para con sus hijos, hermanados en el partir y compartir el pan y los peces, la comida compartida.

El Señor vino para darle vida al mundo, y lo hace desafiando la estrechez de nuestros cálculos, la mediocridad de nuestras expectativas y nuestra superficialidad. Él es el pan vivo bajado del cielo. Esa muchedumbre también descubrió que el hambre que tenía no era solo de pan, sino hambre de Dios, hambre de fraternidad, hambre de encuentro y de fiesta compartida.

El Señor nos exhorta a caminar hacia Él para hacernos partícipes de su misma vida y de su misión. Amémonos unos a otros, experimentemos la abundancia de su amor, dejemos que Él sacie nuestra hambre y sed.

 

Oración: Sacia, Dios, nuestras “hambres” nuestras carencias materiales y humanas, sacia nuestra sed, Señor Amén.
