Valentine’s Day

IF I DO NOT HAVE LOVE ALL IS WORTHLESS

1 Corinthians13:1–13

If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

1 Corinthians 13:3a,13b (NIV)

Surely among the most frequently used biblical texts on this occasion is the beautiful passage written by Paul, which has been read, recited, and set to music by various singers. This chapter is a hymn to love, a description of how love manifests itself in our lives, but far removed from the romantic interpretations, it has often received. The apostle Paul wants to teach us the necessity of putting love into everything we do. Gifts and talents, however impressive they may be, wisdom or knowledge, however vast, will be useless if they are not accompanied by love.

Spiritual gifts will fade away, knowledge will become obsolete, but love will endure forever. It is the perfect bond, the force that unites all!

This chapter invites us to examine our hearts and ask ourselves if our actions are motivated by true love. Do we love God and our neighbor as he loves us?

Prayer: Thank you for teaching me the way of love and for giving me the grace to love as you love me. Amen.

DÍA DEL AMOR

SI NO TENGO AMOR, DE NADA ME VALE

1 Corintios 13:1–13

Si no tengo amor, de nada me sirve (…) Solo el amor vive para siempre (…)

Seguramente entre los textos bíblicos más usados en esta fecha, está el hermoso escrito de Pablo que ha sido leído, recitado y musicalizado por varios cantantes. Este capítulo es un canto al amor, una descripción de cómo el amor se manifiesta en nuestras vidas, pero muy alejado de los romanticismos desde donde se ha leído, el apóstol Pablo nos quiere enseñar la necesidad de poner amor en todo lo que hacemos, los dones y talentos, por impresionantes que sean, la sabiduría o el conocimiento por inmensos que estos sean, serán inútiles si no están acompañados del amor.

Los dones espirituales desaparecerán, el conocimiento se volverá obsoleto, pero el amor permanecerá para siempre. ¡Es el vínculo perfecto, la fuerza que une a todos!

Este capítulo nos invita a examinar nuestro corazón y a preguntarnos si nuestras acciones están motivadas por el amor verdadero. ¿Amamos a Dios y a nuestro prójimo como Él nos ama?

Oración: Gracias, por enseñarme el camino del amor y por darme la gracia de amar como tú me amas a mí. Amén.
