LET US FOLLOW JESUS

John 21:15-19

“Follow me”

John 21:19

Jesus foretold that Peter would deny him three times when the rooster crowed, to which Peter, indignant, replied that he would never deny him, even if it meant dying with him.

After Jesus was arrested, Peter followed him, and once he was in the courtyard, he was recognized and denied knowing Jesus three times. But when the rooster crowed for the third time, he remembered what the Master had foretold, and, filled with remorse, wept bitterly.

After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples. After eating, he asked Peter three times if he loved him. Peter’s third response was stronger than the others, no doubt prompted by his pain at being questioned three times and thus remembering his complete denial of the Lord earlier.

Jesus’ final words, after giving him three tasks with new responsibilities, were: “Follow me.”

These two words can give genuine hope to Christians today when they feel they’ve denied Jesus and are unforgivable.

Jesus asks only for our repentance and love, that we follow him with faith and devotion.

Prayer: May we always be ready, in the midst of our afflictions, to hear your call and follow you. Amen.

SIGAMOS A JESÚS

Juan 21:15-19

“Sígueme”

Jesús anunció que sería negado por Pedro cuando el gallo cantara tres veces, a lo cual este, indignado le responde que no lo negaría, aunque tuviera que morir con él.

Arrestado Jesús, Pedro le siguió, y ya en el patio es reconocido, negando, en tres ocasiones, conocer a Jesús. Pero cuando el gallo cantó por tercera vez se acordó de lo anunciado por el Maestro y arrepentido lloró amargamente.

Resucitado, Jesús aparece a sus discípulos. Después de comer le pregunta a Pedro en tres ocasiones, si lo amaba. La tercera respuesta de Pedro fue más fuerte que las otras, sin duda provocada por su dolor al ser interrogado 3 veces y recordar así su total negación al Señor anteriormente.

Las palabras finales de Jesús, después de haberle hecho tres encargos, con nuevas responsabilidades, fueron: Sígueme.

Esta sola palabra, puede dar una genuina esperanza a los cristianos de hoy cuando sientan que han negado a Jesús y que eso es imperdonable.

Jesús solo pide nuestro arrepentimiento y amor, que le sigamos con fe y total entrega.

Oración: Que en medio de nuestras aflicciones siempre estemos prestos a escuchar tu llamado y seguirte. Amén.
