CALLED TO HOPE AS THE GIFT OF GOD

Ephesians 1:17–23

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.

Ephesians 1:18ª (NIV)

The Apostle Paul conveys to the church in Ephesus that he is praying for God to grant them a “spirit of wisdom and revelation,” so that they may comprehend the hope to which they have been called.

Hope is born not merely of human optimism or favorable circumstances; it is a gift that springs from the power of God and his infinite goodness, wonderfully manifested in the resurrection of Christ. It is not a passive waiting, sitting idly by to see the fulfillment of our longings and dreams. Rather, it is a daily labor grounded in trust in God.

This text reminds us that the very power that raised Christ from the dead is at work on behalf of those who believe in him and follow his ways. This affirmation is not merely symbolic; it lies at the very heart of historic Christian faith. Our hope is anchored in a concrete event: the resurrection of the Lord, a foundation proclaimed by the church since its inception, and one that we are celebrating throughout this entire Easter season.

Let us confess that Christian hope is secure because it rests upon the sovereignty and power of God.

Prayer: God of hope, open the eyes of our understanding so that we may comprehend the greatness of your power and the certainty of your call in this present time. Sustain us whenever discouragement seeks to take hold of our hearts, and make us steadfast witnesses to the hope that comes from the risen Christ. In his name. Amen.

LLAMADOS A TODA ESPERANZA COMO REGALO DE DIOS

Efesios 1:17–23

(…) le pido a Dios que les haga comprender con claridad el gran valor de la esperanza a la que han sido llamados (…)

Efesios 1:18ª

¿Qué es la esperanza? ¿Cuál es la fuente de la esperanza para la iglesia cristiana?

El apóstol Pablo le transmite a la iglesia de Éfeso que está orando para que Dios les conceda “espíritu de sabiduría y revelación” y, puedan comprender la esperanza a la cual han sido llamados.

La esperanza no nace solamente del optimismo humano ni de circunstancias favorables; es un don que brota del poder de Dios y su infinita bondad manifestado de manera maravillosa en la resurrección de Cristo. No es una espera pasiva de brazos cruzados para ver la realización de nuestros anhelos y sueños, es trabajo cotidiano y de confianza en Dios.

Este texto nos recuerda que el mismo poder que levantó a Cristo de entre los muertos actúa en favor de quienes creen y siguen sus caminos. Esa afirmación no es simbólica; es el centro de la fe cristiana histórica. Nuestra esperanza está anclada en un acontecimiento concreto: la resurrección del Señor, fundamento proclamado por la iglesia desde sus inicios y que durante todo este tiempo pascual estamos celebrando.

Confesemos que la esperanza cristiana es segura porque descansa en la soberanía y el poder de Dios.

Oración: Dios de esperanza, abre los ojos de nuestro entendimiento para que comprendamos la grandeza de tu poder y la certeza de tu llamado en este tiempo. Sostennos cuando el desánimo quiera dominar nuestro corazón y haznos testigos firmes de la esperanza que proviene de Cristo resucitado. En su nombre. Amén.
