UNITY AND HARMONY

Acts 1:12-14

They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

Acts 1:14 (NIV)

After Christ’s ascension to Heaven, the Apostles immediately returned to Jerusalem and gathered together to pray. Jesus told them that the Holy Spirit would come to them in a few days, so they were to wait in prayer. Fervent and persistent prayer is a prominent theme in the book of Acts. Here, prayer is an obedient response to Jesus’ command for them to wait in Jerusalem.

To be united and in agreement are dominant characteristics of New Testament leadership. Whenever the leaders of the early church gathered in Jerusalem, we are told that they were united and in harmony with one another and with God. Their unity was both spiritual and practical, not merely theological, as we see that they shared their lives and their possessions. This gives us a picture of leadership in New Testament times: they gathered together, studied together, and shared their material possessions. They often gathered to pray, thereby demonstrating not only the good relationship they shared, but also their complete trust in God.

When you are faced with a difficult task, an important decision, a confusing dilemma, your first step should be to pray for the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Don’t rush into the task or hope it will work itself out. In any case, your first step should be to pray that the power of the Holy Spirit will guide you.

Prayer: Beloved Father, grant that we may always be able to be united in prayer and in every other aspect of our lives as Christians. Amen.

UNIDAD Y ARMONIA

Hechos 1:12-14

Todos, en un mismo espíritu, se dedicaban a la oración, junto con las mujeres y con los hermanos de Jesús y su madre María.

Hechos 1:14

Después de la ascensión de Cristo al cielo, los apóstoles regresaron de inmediato a Jerusalén y se reunieron para orar. Jesús les dijo que el Espíritu Santo vendría sobre ellos dentro de no muchos días, de manera que tenían que esperar en oración. La oración ferviente y persistente es algo que se destaca en el libro de los Hechos. Aquí la oración constituye una respuesta obediente al mandato de Jesús de esperar en Jerusalén.

Estar unánimes o de acuerdo es un rasgo dominante en el liderazgo del NT. Siempre que los líderes de la iglesia primitiva se reunían en Jerusalén, se nos dice que estaban unidos y en armonía unos con otros y con Dios. La unanimidad era espiritual y práctica, no solamente teológica, pues vemos que compartían sus vidas y posesiones. Nos da una descripción del liderazgo en la época del NT: se reunían, estudiaban juntos, compartían sus posesiones materiales. A menudo se reunían para orar, con lo cual ponían de manifiesto no solamente las buenas relaciones existentes entre ellos, sino también su total confianza en Dios.

Cuando usted enfrente una tarea difícil, una decisión importante, un dilema confuso, su primer paso debe ser orar por el poder y la dirección del Espíritu Santo. No se apresure en el trabajo ni espere que salga como debe. De todos modos, su primer paso debe ser orar a fin de que el poder del Espíritu Santo le guíe.

Oración: Padre amado, permite que podamos estar siempre unidos en oración y todos de los demás aspectos de nuestra vida como cristianas y cristianos. Amén.
