WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?

Mark 10:46-52

“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”

When we leave our homes on our way to work, school, or grocery shopping–among other daily tasks–we find that there are many people who need and are waiting for our help. Sadly, many of them spend the whole day sitting on the sidewalks without food or sick without knowing what ails them. In addition, they are weary and sad for the weight of their unresolved worries and needs. Even so, they cling to the hope that someone will come along and give them the attention or help they deserve.

This passage, in a very concise way, shows us just how much compassion and mercy Jesus had for Bartimaeus. Even though Bartimaeus was rejected for being disabled, he was able to get Jesus’ attention when he asked only for mercy. Today, on our streets and sidewalks, we come across people in need like this man, yet we prefer to look the other way so as not to feel responsible. Hopefully, when this occurs, we can ask: is there something I could do for you? Surely, his or her face will change because you will have rekindled the desire to live, and that is the greatest miracle we can bring about in them. Let us follow Jesus’ example so that all of us, without exception, may be part of building of your Kingdom of peace and love. So, will you dare to help?

Prayer: Lord, help me understand that today we can do good for someone because it is our calling when we accept Jesus as our guide in life. Amen.

¿QUÉ PUEDO HACER POR TI?

Marcos 10:46-52

Marcos 10:50-51

Cuando salimos de nuestros hogares camino al trabajo, a la escuela, a comprar los alimentos del día, entre otros quehaceres cotidianos, encontramos que hay muchas personas que necesitan y esperan nuestra ayuda. Tristemente, muchos de ellos permanecen durante todo el día sentados en las aceras sin comer, enfermos sin saber lo que tienen, y además cansados y tristes por el peso de sus preocupaciones y necesidades sin resolver. Aun así, se abrazan a la esperanza que alguien llegue y le dé la atención o ayuda que merecen. 

Este pasaje nos muestra en pocas palabras cuanta compasión y misericordia tuvo Jesús con Bartimeo, que, aun siendo rechazado por su capacidad diferente, pudo llamar la atención de Jesús cuando pedía tan solo misericordia. Hoy por nuestros caminos y aceras nos cruzamos con personas con necesidades como este hombre y preferimos mirar hacia el otro lado para no sentirnos responsables. Ojalá y cuando esto ocurra, podamos preguntarle: ¿necesitas que haga algo por ti? De seguro su rostro cambiará porque le harás renacer su deseo de vivir, y ese es el mayor milagro que podemos lograr en ellos. Sigamos el ejemplo de Jesús para que todos, sin exclusión alguna, seamos parte de la construcción de su reino de paz y amor. Entonces, ¿te atreverías a ayudar?

Oración: Señor, ayúdame a entender que hoy podemos hacerle el bien a alguien porque es nuestro llamado al aceptar a Jesús como nuestro maestro de vida. Amén
