SIGNS, FOR WHAT?
LuKE 11:29-32

… so the Son of Man will be a sign for this generation. (NIV)

Luke 11: 30b

We live in times in which images and sounds constitute the most important necessity for many people. There’s no doubt that the times are changing, science is advancing, and technology with it. The immediacy of communications is undeniable.

Everyone wants to see, hear, and know in such a way that the cellular phone becomes the inseparable companion, and computers have become our best friend. On the other hand, for many of who don’t like the television channels, there are some coming from abroad; so there are other alternatives, for example, to copy materials from the weekly package, etc.

“To see is to believe, Seeing is believing” as the popular refrains go. Another slogan says, “Hearing is seeing.”  And we Christian brothers and sisters, do we need signs and miracles to believe?who  Our faith is sustained by Jesus Christ; He is a living Christ, resuscitated, who conquered death. Behold the empty tomb. What better sign, what better proof?  Do you believe that?  It should suffice! Faith is the full assurance of receiving what is hoped for. Faith is to be convinced of the reality of the things we don’t see (Hebrews 11:1). Then we can understand how they were healed:  the blind, deaf, and lame, women with blood flow…it was not with therapeutic surgical procedures. It was by faith.

The true, authentic faith is lived and felt, not seen with the eyes or heard with the ears. It’s felt with the heart. As the Little Prince says, “The essential is invisible to the eyes, it is not seen well except with the heart.”

Prayer: Oh God, may Jesus Christ continue to be our only Lord and savior, the way, truth and life. Amen.

Aniversario de la IPR de Palos

Señales ¿para qué?
Lucas 11:29-32

Sunday, October 13 Sunday of lay ministry ONE COMMUNITY, MANY MINISTRIES LUKE 17: 11-19

Sunday, October 13
Sunday of lay ministry

ONE COMMUNITY, MANY MINISTRIES
LuKE 17: 11-19

One of them, when he saw that he was healed,
came back and praised God in a loud voice. (NIV)
Luke 17:15

At various times I’ve asked myself if I feel the vocation and call to pastoral ministry. I believe this concern is related to my life of dedication and service to the church which has offered me a horizon of meaning and participation.
Although the necessity of theological improvement, of knowing and deepening my understanding of the teachings of the Bible, of our norms of faith and conduct as the reformed church has helped me a great deal in my life both within and without the church, I can’t imagine having the responsibility of regularly preparing sermons and Bible studies for a community.
However, I can’t conceive of my daily spaces without participating in the music ministry, of educational programs for girls, boys, and young people, without being aware of how I can contribute to each dream and  need of my faith community.
Could it be that my questioning about my pastoral vocation has to do with an inherited learning in which pastors must know how to do everything right? Although we believe in the universal priesthood of all believers, in our imagination the work of the presbyter pastor continues to be the most important. The most recognized, that requires a call, a special vocation. Without pretending that it is not, I believe that as a church we must also recognize that God’s people respond in multiple ways to the call we receive from Him, and to his many blessings. We must bear witness to praise and service with our abilities, whatever they may be.
Prayer: To you, our God, we give thanks for the diversity of calls, of talents that you have placed in each person. Allow us to serve you by giving our lives, by putting our small daily efforts at the disposal of the community, of your possible kingdom among us. Amen.

Domingo del Ministerio Laico

Una comunidad, muchos ministerios
Lucas 17: 11-19

…mientras iban quedaron sanos.

Saturday, October 12 Anniversary of the IPR de Meneses BLESSED BE THOSE WHO LISTEN AND OBEY LUKE 11:27-28

BLESSED BE THOSE WHO LISTEN AND OBEY
LUKE 11:27-28

And he replied, “Blessed rather are those
who hear and obey the word of God.”  (NIV)
Luke 11: 28

On reflecting upon this biblical text, imagen the enthusiasm Jesus’ presence and words engendered among the simple and humble people of the town. That woman couldn’t contain her emotion, and publicly expressed what Jesus meant to her, for his commitment to the suffering of those who hungered and thirsted for justice.

This woman’s words reflect that Jesus was a prophet who was not disconnected from his times, nor from his people, and that his struggle for justice had concrete references in his family. Nevertheless, the Master was not proud on hearing these words, rather he throws a challenge to those around him, noting that it’s not enough to hear beautiful words because he didn’t come into the world to be applauded.

Jesus challenges us today as well, reminding us that we should open our senses to the Word of God, and that we should act in accordance to his teachings.

We live in times of uncertainty, desperation and crisis of all kinds. Amid this reality our spirituality cannot be focused on procuring personal well-being, on singing hymns and listening to prayers or sermons that make us feel good. The challenge is greater and has to do with being open to the revelation of God in this time and fulfill his will that has been revealed to us in his Word of life and hope.

Prayer: God of all ages, let us not be just listeners, rather doers of your Word. Help us to share your good news through a committed and coherent faith. Amen.

BIENAVENTURANZA PARA QUIENES OYEN Y GUARDAN
LUCAS 11:27-28

Friday, October 11 A PRAYER FOR TODAY PSALM 4

Friday, October 11
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
PSALM  4
Let the light of your face shine upon us! (NIV)
Psalm 4:6

I want to leave this prayer with you today so that it may form part of our devotional time together. Let us make this prayer a reality in our lives:

“Jesus, you showed us the way by the example of your life, death and resurrection. Help me to spread your fragrance wherever I may go. Overflow my soul with your Spirit and your Life; penetrate my whole being and take my life in such a way that hereafter it may not be in the forefront, but rather an illumination of yours. Stay in my heart, Lord Jesus, with a union so intimate that souls who have contact with mine can feel your presence in mine, and that looking at me forget that I exist and think only of You. Let me preach your Name with words or without them… by my example, with the force of your attraction, with the supernatural influence of the love my heart feels for You to be evident. Stay by me; thus, I will be able to become light for others. That light, Oh Jesus, will come from you; not one of its beams will be mine. I will only serve as an instrument so that You illuminate souls through me. Let me praise you in the most agreeable way, carrying my lighted lamp to dissipate the shadows in the journey of others’ souls. May my lamp not extinguish. May your Light forever remain.”

Prayer:  Lord, may we make this prayer our daily action. In your name we pray. Amen.

UNA ORACIÓN PARA HOY
SALMO 4

LET US LIVE THIS TIME WITH FAITH
2 TIMOTHY 3:1-17

… and the Lord rescued me from all of them.  (NIV)
2 Timothy 3:11

This biblical portion speaks to us about egotism, envy, disobedience, and all these things that we’ve greatly meditated upon and continue studying, because they’re always current issues.

What calls our attention at this moment is that it’s said that in the last times people will be this way. This reflection makes us think, because we know that evil and sin have always been present.

The passage tells us that the man of God should be perfect, entirely prepared for all good works. The important thing is not the time in which our actions are done, but our identity with God and the preparation of our human condition to be able to eradicate evil and sin in our lives. Not only will we have to consider our own lives, but we’ll also have to consider the little ones around us, to whom we have the responsibility of guiding in the ways of God.

The task isn’t easy, but we can’t elude it. The Lord sums it up in the eternal mission: Go and preach the Gospel to all creatures.

Prayer: Lord, we desire a better world where goodness and love guide our steps. Make us instruments of your perfection. Amen.

VIVAMOS EL TIEMPO CON FE
2 TIMOTEO 3:1-17

Wednesday, October 9 GIVE THEM YOUR EXAMPLE TITUS 2:6-8

Wednesday, October 9
GIVE THEM YOUR EXAMPLE
TITUS 2:6-8

Why do you look at the speck of dust in your brother’s eye
and pay no attention to the plank in your eye? (NIV)
Luke 6:41

Paul’s words to Titus seem to be directed to those within our churches today who dedicate themselves to giving advice without first taking stock of themselves.
Without any doubt, we are called to counsel our youth, to guide them on good paths, to teach them that their first task and their first duty is to love God and serve him unconditionally. But first, let’s see if we’re convinced that we’re the most suited to give counsel, if we ourselves practice what Christ taught us by his example, and that which we advise others to do.  And lastly, if we are straightforward, humble, kind, capable of forgiving and do unto our neighbor what we would have them do unto us.
Remember, we aren’t fooling anyone with our acts, because many of those around us don’t know us, but God does, and if we truly say we believe in Him, and fulfill what He commands us, it’s because He will be our Supreme Judge.

Prayer: Lord, we pray for those who erroneously advise without first looking to their defects. In Jesus. Amen.

DALES TU MISMO EJEMPLO
TITO 2:6-8

¿Por qué miras la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano, y no echar a ver la viga que está en tu ojo?
Lucas 6:41

Tuesday, October 8 Celebration of the Mission Church at Camagüey YOU DO NOT FORSAKE ME LUKE 10:38-42

Celebration of the Mission Church at Camagüey

YOU DO NOT FORSAKE ME
LUKE 10:38-42
“Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things . . .”
Luke 10: 41 (NRSV)
Several years ago, I found myself in a woeful financial situation which forced me to search for work that I found in the kitchen of a sugar cane brigade where I earned a good salary. Besides that, I made many friends, and, of course, my economic situation was much improved.
I met my husband there after many years of being divorced.  However, after a few months I was down in spirits with no encouragement, and I realized that I hadn’t been to church in a long while because my new work consumed all my time. To top it all off, one day I had a dream where a voice told me to work for Him, and I interpreted that as being the voice of the Lord.
So it was that, very determined and without exaggerating, I left the work and dedicated myself to selling things from my own house, without affecting my activity in the church. In 2017 my husband died. It was a profound pain and once again I doubted my economic well-being. Thanks to God I could collect the widow’s pension and continue with my small sales, and to this day I have not lacked for any necessity in life.

Prayer: O God, my God, may we always have faith in you, because you never forsake us. Amen.

TÚ NO ME DESAMPARAS
LUCAS 10:38-42

…Marta, Marta, afanada y turbada estás con muchas cosas
Lucas 10 :41
