Persons who seem to be the best sometimes are not. There are important people everywhere who were not trained for their current work, but who responded to a call, and few could do the job better. Often the question is not who is better prepared, but who intends to do the job and is willing to do it.

From the beginning of humanity, God is calling on willing people for his “team.” God is not waiting for the most important, the wisest, or the best prepared…, but for those who are willing. The possibilities for work are endless: take the message of the Gospel to the whole world. Whenever we hear God’s call, we look around because we think somebody else will respond.

We have changed the Biblical text and now we tell the Lord: Here am I, send my brother. We find that all our friends and relatives are ideally suited to serve the Lord...but not ourselves. When we do this, we are disobeying God’s voice. It is not a matter of being the best, or better equipped. It’s a matter of responding. God continues to call in the same way every day: Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? You can make many excuses. There are countless justifications, and you may think they are all very good, but God himself is asking, and when He does, there is only one possible response: Send me.

Prayer: Beloved God, I know that You are calling me. I don’t want to look for someone else, but to respond myself. Here am I. Send me. In Jesus’ name. Amen

No siempre los que parecen mejores lo son. En todos los lugares existen personas importantísimas, que no eran los destinados a su trabajo actual, pero que supieron responder a un llamado y hoy pocos hacen mejor su labor que ellos. Muchas veces la cuestión no es quién está más preparado, sino quién se propone hacerlo, quién está dispuesto.

Desde el principio de la humanidad, Dios está llamando a personas dispuestas para entrar en su "equipo". Dios no espera que sean las más importantes, ni las más sabias, ni los más preparados…, sino que tengan disposición. Las posibilidades de trabajo son inmensas: llevar el mensaje del Evangelio por todo el mundo.

Siempre que escuchamos el llamado de Dios, miramos a nuestro alrededor porque creemos que otro va a responder. Hemos cambiado el texto bíblico y ahora decimos al Señor: Aquí estoy, envía a mi hermano. Encontramos condiciones ideales para servir al Señor en todos nuestros amigos y familiares... pero no en nosotros. Mientras hacemos esto, estamos desobedeciendo la voz de Dios. No es cuestión de ser el mejor, ni de estar más preparado. Es cuestión de responder.

Dios sigue llamando de la misma manera cada día: ¿A quién enviaré y quién irá por nosotros? Puedes poner muchas excusas. Infinidad de justificaciones, y puedes creer que son muy buenas, pero es Dios mismo quien pregunta, y cuando Él lo hace sólo es posible una respuesta: Envíame a mí.

Oración: Dios amado, sé que me estás llamando. No quiero mirar a otro, sin responder yo misma. Aquí estoy, utilízame a mí. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén

1 Samuel 10:7

It was probably 11:00 p.m. when I was comfortably in bed and had finally gotten to sleep when I heard a ringing sound: the telephone or the alarm (I was not sure which) woke me from my comfort. A faint, nagging voice woke me up. Someone was calling to me with a desperate situation: life or death.

This person was trying to stop me from entering her house. Her 11-year-old son, who didn’t know what was happening, let me in. I immediately got my husband and another neighbor to take her to the doctor. God worked things out to prevent worse problems.

I always wonder: what would have happened if I had stayed in my bed asleep? How often are we faced with situations when we could help and don’t open the door to do it? God uses each of his sons and daughters and teaches us that He is always with us. We are an instrument to help each person in need; we must recognize the signs that He gives us and always be ready to respond to them. Only He knows in given circumstances on which door to knock and what we should do. God uses us to reach the most stricken and needy people.

Prayer: Oh God, help us to be instruments to help others. Teach us to serve You every day. Amen.

DIOS ESTÁ CONTIGO

1 SAMUEL 10

Cuando te hayan sucedido estas señales, haz lo que te viniere

Serían las 11:00pm cuando me encontraba muy cómoda en mi cama y había logrado conciliar el sueño, la duda de un timbre: el teléfono o el despertador (no definía bien) me sacaron de mi comodidad. Una voz queja y tenue me levantó. Alguien me llamaba en una situación desesperada: de vida o muerte.

Esta persona estaba haciendo resistencia para impedir que entrara en su casa. Su niño de solo 11 años y que desconocía el asunto me permitió intervenir, logré al instante que mi esposo con otra vecina la llevaran al médico. Dios nos facilitó las cosas para poder impedir males mayores.

Siempre me pregunto ¿Si yo me hubiera quedado en la comodidad de mi cama y de mi sueño, ¿qué hubiera sucedido? Cuántas veces tenemos delante de nosotros situaciones en las que podemos ayudar y no abrimos la puerta para hacerlo. Dios usa a cada uno de sus hijos e hijas y nos enseña que siempre está con nosotros. Somos instrumento para llegar a cada persona necesitada, debemos conocer cuáles son las señales que nos da y debemos estar prestos siempre a recibir estas señales. Solo Él conoce en determinadas circunstancias a qué puerta nos dirige y qué nos toca hacer. Dios nos usa para llegar a los más afligidos y necesitados.

Oración: Oh Dios, llévanos a ser instrumentos para ayudar a otros. Enséñanos a servirte cada día. Amén.

2 CORINTHIANS 12

for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (NIV)

2 Corinthians 12:9

All of us human beings have weaknesses, and we have many defects and imperfections, be they physical, emotional, intellectual, or spiritual. We also may experience countless circumstances that weaken us, such as financial problems or problems with relationships; the most important question is, what do we do with these limitations? God wants to use our weaknesses, and if we refuse to admit them, we can’t use them the way He wants. We think that He only wants to use our strengths, but He also wants to use our weaknesses for His glory and honor.

God’s Word in 1 Corinthians 1:27 tells us: But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God permitted our weaknesses to show His power through us. Jesus blesses the poor in spirit and considers this an asset. He creates and uses simple people to do extraordinary things. We should not imagine ourselves perfect. God shows His power through our weakness. As Paul said, I prefer to boast of my weakness so Christ’s power can reveal itself in me. Our weaknesses make us depend on God, prevent us from becoming proud, and show that we are human.

Prayer: We beseech you, oh Father, to manifest Your power through our weaknesses. Amen.

Pero el Señor me ha dicho, mi amor es todo lo que necesito, pues mi poder se muestra mejor en lo débiles, así que me alegro de ser débil para que en mí se muestre el poder de Cristo.

2 Corintios 12:9

Todos los seres humanos tenemos debilidades, es más, contamos con varios defectos e imperfecciones, ya sean físicas, emocionales, intelectuales o espirituales. También podemos atravesar por innumerables circunstancias que nos debilitan, como son limitaciones económicas o relacionales; pero lo más importante es ¿Qué hacer con estas limitaciones? Dios quiere usar nuestras debilidades y si no las admitimos, esto nos impide usarlas de la manera que Él quiere hacerlo. Nosotros pensamos que Él quiere solo usar nuestras fortalezas, pero también quiere usar nuestras debilidades para su gloria y honra.

La palabra de Dios en 1 Corintios 1:27 nos dice: Y es que, para avergonzar a los sabios, Dios ha escogido a los que el mundo tiene por tontos, y para avergonzar a los fuertes ha escogido a los que el mundo tiene por débiles. Dios permitió nuestras debilidades para mostrar su poder a través de nosotros. Jesús bendice a los pobres de espíritu y los considera como un atributo. Él crea y usa a las personas sencillas para hacer cosas extraordinarias. No nos creamos perfectos. Dios manifiesta su poder en medio de nuestra debilidad. Como dijo Pablo. Por eso prefiero sentirme orgulloso de mi debilidad para que el poder de Cristo se manifieste en mí. Nuestras debilidades nos hacen depender de Dios, nos previenen del orgullo y mantiene nuestra humanidad.

Oración: Rogamos, Oh Padre, para que a través de nuestras debilidades tu poder se manifieste en nosotros. Amén.

Philippians 4:6

As believers and followers of Christ, we should thank God every day for the things He puts in our lives, be they pleasant or not, because He knows what is good for us. And because He loves us so much, He will not put on our shoulders burdens that we cannot bear.

We should be willing to accept everything God puts in our path, and not worry about material things. Let us take everything to God in prayer, trusting that when He is ready, He will be present in our lives. Let us concentrate on things that please God; material things pass away and spiritual things endure.

We must have patience, waiting and trusting in His goodness and mercy because He is a just God and knows our needs. We trust that He knows the reason for everything.

Sometimes we worry about something and despair because we don’t see answers to our prayers, and realize that what we worry about so much is not a blessing. We should thank God for everything and trust in the infinite goodness of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Prayer: God of infinite mercy and goodness, we pray that you give us the ability to wait for You without worrying about anything. Amen.

ESPEREMOS EN DIOS

Por nada estéis afanosos, sino sean conocidas nuestras

Como creyentes y seguidores de Cristo debemos dar gracias a Dios diariamente por aquellas cosas que pone en nuestras vidas, ya sean agradables o no, pues Él sabe lo que nos conviene, y al amarnos como nos ama, no pone sobre nuestros hombros una carga que no seamos capaces de soportar.

Debemos estar dispuestos a aceptar todo aquello que pone en nuestro camino y no afanarnos por las cosas materiales. Pongamos todo en oración, si lo hacemos con fe a su debido tiempo, Dios se manifestará en nuestras vidas.

Pongamos nuestra mirada en las cosas que agradan a Dios, las cosas materiales pasan y las espirituales perduran.

Debemos tener paciencia, esperar y confiar en Su bondad y misericordia pues Él es un Dios justo y conoce nuestras necesidades, confiemos en que Él sabe el porqué de todas las cosas.

En ocasiones nos afanamos por algo y nos desesperamos porque no recibimos respuestas a nuestras oraciones, y llegado el momento nos damos cuenta de que aquello por lo que tanto nos afanamos no nos es de bendición. Debemos dar gracias a Dios por todo y confiar en la bondad infinita de Jesucristo, nuestro Señor y Salvador.

Oración: Dios de infinita misericordia y bondad, oramos porque nos des la capacidad de esperar en ti sin afanarnos por nada. Amén.

One who follows stewardship principles is in a position to lead an ideal life. Nothing that we have belongs to us: time, talents, home, money, character, even life itself. All have been entrusted to us to manage.

God owns the earth and everything in it, including humankind, since He created it.

It’s very easy to limit stewardship to financial matters, but it applies to every aspect of life. God has made us his co-workers, and above all else, He expects us to cooperate with Him in building His Kingdom. If we accept this call, and wisely use our time, talents, and gifts, we will live a meaningful life with the peace that surpasses understanding and fulfills our heart’s desire.

Prayer: Beloved Father, help us to understand that everything we have is Yours and that we are Your stewards. Make us generous to share with others the many gifts that You have graciously given us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

MAYORDOMÍA

MATEO 25: 14-30

Quien se gobierna por los principios de la mayordomía está en condiciones de vivir una vida ideal. Ciertamente nada de lo que poseemos nos pertenece: el tiempo, los talentos, el hogar, el dinero, el carácter y aún la vida misma, todos nos han sido confiados para administrarlo.

Dios no es solo el dueño de la tierra y de todo cuanto en ella existe, sino que de Él es la humanidad, puesto que es su Creador.

Es muy fácil limitar la mayordomía a asuntos financieros, pero esta abarca todos los aspectos de la vida. Dios nos ha hecho colaboradores suyos, pues ante todo espera que cooperemos con Él en la construcción de su reino. Si aceptamos este llamado, y aprovechamos debidamente tiempo, talentos y dones, viviremos una vida con sentido y con ese gozo que sobrepujan todo entendimiento y satisfacen las aspiraciones del alma.

Oración: Padre Amado, ayúdanos a comprender que todo cuanto existe es tuyo y que nosotros somos tus mayordomos. Haznos generosos para compartir con los demás los múltiples dones que en tu misericordia nos has concedido. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén.

JEREMIAH 13:15-27

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (NIV)

Matthew 6:27

There are some things we cannot change. Perhaps the most inalterable component of our lives is our past, which intrinsically can’t be changed. We can’t relive our past. Our parents are our parents, and our childhood will continue to be our childhood.

We can’t change what has happened to us throughout our life. We can’t undo any of it, and we can’t change our words or actions. You can avoid the errors of the past, but even so you will not be able to eliminate the effects of the sin.

We can’t change the past, but we have the option of accepting it. When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well, he did not ask her to erase her five marriages. He offered her water to quench her thirst and courage to face her current challenges.

We waste our time and energy thinking about what might have been. We should simply admit our own mistakes and those committed against God, but we can’t do more than that. Let us not worry, but focus on the present that is being shaped in our hands.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to accept my past and leave behind what I cannot change. Give me strength and faith to face today’s challenges without worrying. Amen.

NO NOS AFANEMOS

JEREMIAS 13:15-27

¿Y quién de vosotros podrá, por mucho que se afane,

añadir a su estatura un codo?

Algunas cosas no las podemos cambiar. Tal vez el componente de nuestras vidas más inalterable sea nuestro pasado; que, por naturaleza, no se puede cambiar. El pasado no puede volver a vivirse. Nuestros padres son nuestros padres, nuestra niñez seguirá siendo nuestra niñez.

Lo que nos ha pasado a lo largo de la vida no lo podemos cambiar. No se puede deshacer nada de eso, no hay palabras ni obras que se puedan cambiar. Puedes alejarte de los errores, pero incluso así no eliminarán los efectos del pecado.

No podemos cambiar el pasado, pero tenemos la opción de aceptarlo. Cuando Jesús se encontró con la mujer samaritana en el pozo, no le pidió que borrara sus cinco matrimonios. Él simplemente le ofreció agua para saciar su sed y la animó a asumir los desafíos de su presente.

Malgastamos nuestro tiempo y energía cuando pensamos en lo que podría haber sido. Simplemente debemos admitir nuestros propios errores y los cometidos contra Dios, pero no podemos hacer nada más. No nos afanemos y concentrémonos en el presente, que se está perfilando en nuestras manos.

Oración: Ayúdame Señor, a aceptar mi pasado y a dejar atrás lo que no puedo cambiar. Dame fortaleza y fe para enfrentar los desafíos de este día sin afanarme. Amén.

Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord. (NIV)

Isaiah 1:18

In today’s text, God extends an invitation. Although the people had turned away from Him, God invites them to restore the relationship. He offers to talk and discuss in search of peace. God’s relationship with His people was so important that He sought reconciliation. We were created in God’s image, so we should also seek reconciliation in our relationships. Conflicts are inevitable, but then what do we do? Will we settle them or stubbornly persist in arguments?

Often the difference between settling the conflict and arguing is a matter of attitude. Arguing is the attitude of people who insist on their own way and always defend their reasons. People willing to resolve conflicts have a different attitude. They feel they can solve conflicts positively and constructively for both parties.

In this text God, who was entirely right, made the effort to resolve the conflict. The invitation today is that we dare to do the same.

Prayer: I beseech you, God, to help me to be a person who is ready to resolve conflicts. Soften my heart when at times I am inflexible and turn me into a person filled with grace and truth. Amen.

UNA INVITACIÓN

ISAÍAS 1:15-20

Venid luego, dice Jehová, y estemos a cuenta...

En el texto de hoy, Dios hace una invitación. Aunque el pueblo se había alejado de Él, Dios los invita a volver a su relación. Les propuso hablar y debatir en busca de paz. Dios valoraba tanto la relación con su pueblo que buscó la reconciliación. Fuimos creados a imagen de Dios, por lo que nosotros también deberíamos buscar la reconciliación en nuestras relaciones. Los conflictos son inevitables, ¿Y entonces qué? ¿resolveremos nuestros conflictos o nos empecinaremos en seguir con nuestras discusiones?

Muchas veces la diferencia entre resolver el conflicto y discutir está en la actitud. La discusión es la actitud de personas que intentan salirse con la suya y defender siempre sus razones. Personas propensas a resolver los conflictos tienen una actitud diferente. Consideran que pueden resolverlo de una manera positiva y constructiva para ambos.

En este texto, Dios, aunque tenía toda la razón, se esfuerza por resolver el conflicto. La invitación de hoy es que nos atrevamos a hacer lo mismo.

Oración: Te pido Dios, que me ayudes a ser una persona propensa a resolver los conflictos. Ablanda mi corazón cuando a veces soy rígido y conviérteme en una persona llena de gracia y verdad. Amén.

I always say that it is a privilege and a miracle to have the Bible, the Word of God, with us. It is a privilege because having God’s revelation to humankind over centuries compiled in one accessible book makes us witnesses of the faith and commitment of men and women, communities, and families who have given continuity to the history of salvation, of which we are heirs.

It is also a miracle because this great book contains countless doctrines and assessments of God and life that are very different from one to the other, despite human censorship and limitations and attempts to maintain a single voice about God’s will for their creation. Books like Ruth in the Old Testament or James in the New Testament are good examples of how, despite the many powers that oppose God’s message of liberation, God’s power was greater to establish them as His Word. 

Today is the day to give thanks to God for his Word, and for the great efforts of gospel writers and publishers to bring the Word to the remotest corners of the earth and in languages to communicate with each culture. It is also the day to pray for those who work in this ministry, many times making great sacrifices for the Kingdom of God. In our country we want to highlight the important work of the Bible Commission of the Council of Churches in Cuba in the distribution and the study of the Sacred Scriptures.  May God bless them always!

Prayer: Good God, thank you for your Word and for the beautiful way that you bring it to us today. Enable us to respond to Your Word with all the love and commitment that you ask of us and that these times call for. Amen.

Privilegio y milagro

Josué 1:1-9

Nunca se apartará de tu boca este libro de la ley, sino que de día y de noche meditarás en él para que guardes y hagas conforme

Siempre digo que tener la Biblia, la Palabra de Dios con nosotros, es un privilegio y un milagro. Es un privilegio porque tener compilados y a nuestro alcance en solo un libro la revelación de Dios a la humanidad durante siglos nos hace testigos de la fe y el compromiso de mujeres y hombres, de comunidades y familias que dieron continuidad a la historia de salvación, y de los cuales somos herederos.

Es también un milagro porque unidos en este gran libro encontramos un sinnúmero de doctrinas y apreciaciones acerca de Dios y la vida, muy diferentes unas de otras, más allá de las censuras y limitaciones humanas y de las pretensiones de sostener una única voz o discurso acerca de la voluntad de Dios para su creación.

Libros como el de Rut en el Antiguo Testamento o el de Santiago en el Nuevo, son buenos ejemplos de cómo a pesar de que muchos poderes se oponían a sus mensajes de liberación, el poder de Dios fue mayor para establecerlos como su Palabra.

Hoy es día de agradecer a Dios por su Palabra, y por los grandes esfuerzos evangelizadores y editoriales por llevarla a los más intrincados rincones de la tierra y en las lenguas en que se comunica cada cultura. Es también día de intercesión por aquellos y aquellas que se esfuerzan en estas labores, muchas veces con un alto sentido de sacrificio por el Reino de Dios.

En nuestro país quisiéramos destacar la importante labor que la Comisión Bíblica del Consejo de Iglesias de Cuba desarrolla para la distribución y el estudio de las Sagradas Escrituras. ¡Que Dios les bendiga siempre!

Oración: Dios bueno, gracias por tu Palabra y por la manera hermosa que la haces llegar a nosotros hoy. Permite que respondamos a ella con todo el amor y la entrega que tú nos pides y que estos tiempos necesitan. Amén.

All of the Psalms invite us to praise the Lord.  In the midst of pain, we could ask ourselves, “What are the things for which I should praise God?” And there are so many.

In the Psalm for today, David praised God for his blessings and for God’s faithful accompaniment in his past. When we begin to praise God for what God has done in the past, we end up giving thanks because we know that God will also be faithful in the future.

Why not praise the one who has transformed our lament into dancing?

Our present circumstances should not be an obstacle to cultivate our relationship with God every day through genuine praise and a life of prayer. Maybe you don’t feel like singing; maybe you have never sung in your life, but try this: choose a Psalm, compose your own melody and sing it to God. The melody, the tune, and the rhythm are not important. What is important is that you express your praise to God. 

Praising God also has to do with a testimony that is faithful to God’s Word. Therefore, let us praise God with our song, but also with concrete acts of love and service to our neighbor and to all of God’s creation.

Prayer: Lord, give me the courage to overcome the misfortunes of life and to have the strength to sing to you and to praise you in the midst of them all. Amen.

UNA CANCIÓN DESDE EL CORAZÓN

SALMO 135:1-21

Todos los Salmos nos invitan a alabar al Señor. En medio del dolor, podríamos preguntarnos: “¿Cuáles son las cosas por las que debo alabar a Dios?” Y son muchas.

En el Salmo de hoy, David alabó a Dios por sus bendiciones y la compañía fiel en su pasado. Cuando comenzamos a alabar a Dios por lo que Él ha hecho en el pasado, terminamos agradeciéndole porque sabemos que también será fiel en el futuro.

¿Por qué no alabar a quien a transformado nuestro lamento en danza?

Nuestras circunstancias presentes no deberían ser un obstáculo para cultivar diariamente nuestra relación con Dios, a través de una alabanza genuina y una vida de oración. Puede que no sientas la inclinación a cantar, puede que nunca hayas cantado en tu vida, pero intenta esto: escoge un salmo, compón tu propia melodía y cántaselo a Dios. La melodía, el tono y el ritmo no importan. Lo que importa es que le expreses tu alabanza a Dios.

Alabar a Dios tiene que ver también con un testimonio fiel a su palabra. Alabemos a Dios pues, con nuestro canto, pero también con gestos concretos de amor y servicio al prójimo y a toda su creación.

Oración: Señor, dame el valor de sobreponerme ante las desgracias de la vida y tener fuerzas para cantarte y alabarte en medio de todas ellas. Amén.

MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE

         MATTHEW 5: 2-9

Happy are people who make peace,

because they will be called God’s children.

In the world today, both on the international level and in the communities where we live, and even at the family level, there is dissension, contention, and intolerance. 

Our differing personalities, opinions, and ideas cannot obscure the reality that we are sons and daughters of God. But frequently our interpersonal relationships are marked by attitudes like selfishness, vanity, intolerance, exhibitionism, being hypercritical, and other attitudes that can foster rumors and misunderstandings that separate us from one another, creating mistrust and division.

We are called by God to proclaim His love, which brings peace.

There will be peace if we put ourselves in the Lord’s hands. He will give us wisdom and strength to silence our demands, reject violence, and allow ourselves to be guided by his Spirit. Let us pray constantly for this.

Prayer: Beloved God, allow your peaceful will to prevail in us, and guide us to be instruments in your hands, carrying peace wherever we go. Through Jesus, the model peacemaker. Amen.

Día internacional de la paz

HAZME INSTRUMENTO DE TU PAZ

El mundo de hoy, tanto en el marco internacional, como en las comunidades donde nos desenvolvemos, y hasta en las familias, existen discordias, contiendas e intolerancias.

La diversidad de personalidades, opiniones e ideas no pueden oscurecer la realidad de que somos hijos e hijas de Dios. Pero con frecuencia brotan en nuestras relaciones interpersonales, el egoísmo, la vanidad, la intolerancia, el ansia de protagonismo, el hipercriticismo y otras actitudes que conducen a colaborar con rumores y mal entendimientos que nos alejan unos a otros, creando desconfianzas y divisiones.

Somos llamados por Dios para proclamar su amor, cuya práctica trae la paz.

Habrá paz si nos ponemos en manos del Señor. El nos dará la sabiduría y la fortaleza para acallar nuestros reclamos, desechar la violencia y dejarnos guiar por su Espíritu. Oremos constantemente por ello.

Oración: Dios amado, permite que prevalezca en mí tu voluntad de paz y guíanos para ser instrumentos en tus manos, para llevar la paz donde quiera que actuemos. Por Jesús, quien es modelo de pacificador. Amén.

IF ONE OF YOU IS DEPRESSED

PSALM 34:15-22

The righteous have many problems,

but the Lord delivers them from every one.

John was a friend of our family whose wife suffered from depression. He told us that she stayed in bed all morning, and in the afternoons she sat in a corner of the house. She seemed to have no ambition. She had no energy for cooking, and many times did not even eat. She had lost more than 45 pounds that year. He told us also that the ones who suffered the most were the children, because they must have been wondering what was wrong with their mother.

John’s story fits with the typical characteristics of depression. Unfortunately, this is a very common illness and it doesn’t disappear simply with the passage of time. John’s wife needs medical and psychological attention. Without it, things will get much worse.

Many Christians do not understand depression and think that it is only a spiritual problem. Although it can have a spiritual dimension, often it is rooted in a physical and emotional imbalance. If you or someone you love has this problem, remember Psalm 34:18. The Bible assures us that the Lord has compassion for you and treats you tenderly when you are depressed.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to be aware of the emotions of sadness. Give me wisdom to encourage and offer hope to those who suffer from depression and anxiety. Amen.

SI UNO DE USTEDES ESTÁ DEPRIMIDO

Juan era un amigo de la familia nuestra cuya esposa sufría de depresión. Nos contó que se pasaba la mañana entera en la cama,  y en la tarde se sentaba en algún rincón de la casa. Parecía no tener ambición. No tenía energía para cocinar, y muchas veces ni siquiera comía. Había perdido más de veinte kilos en ese año. Nos decía también que quienes más sufrían eran los niños, pues ellos debían estarse preguntando qué le pasaba a su madre.

Esto que Juan nos contaba coincide con las características típicas de la depresión. Lamentablemente, esta es un mal bastante común y no desaparece sola con el paso del tiempo. La esposa de Juan necesita atención médica y psicológica. Sin eso, las cosas empeorarán mucho más.

Muchos cristianos no entienden la depresión y piensan que es solo un problema espiritual. Aunque podría tener una dimensión espiritual, a menudo está enraizada en un desequilibrio físico y emocional. Si tú o algún ser querido se encuentra en ese problema, recuerda el Salmo 34:18. La Biblia asegura que el Señor tiene compasión de ti y te trata con ternura en tu tiempo de depresión.

Oración: Ayúdame Señor, a ser consciente de las emociones de tristeza. Dame sabiduría para animar y brindar esperanza a quienes padecen por la depresión y la angustia. Amén.
