THE PATH WE MUST FOLLOW

PSALM 32

I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go;

I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Psalm 32:8 (NRSV)

How often after something unexpected occurs, something contrary to our interests, do we cast into the air, toward the heavens or to God this shout: Why? When we ask Why did God do this? or Why did God allow this to happen? many times these are questions for which we don’t need an answer; rather it is a complaint against God. If it were really a question rising from the depth of our affliction, surely, we would receive a response. God will make us understand and will show us a way forward.

What does the Psalmist want to tell us when in today’s text he says, My eyes are fixed on you? (Reina-Valera 1960 text) Sometimes we think that God is watching from on high to see the evil things we do. In the language of gestures, when we want someone to look at something or someone, we call attention to that person by lifting the index finger, touching our eye, and then pointing to the person or object at which we want them to look. In other words: we should fix our eyes on that which we want to keep in our field of vision. So it is if God makes us understand and teaches us the path in which we should go; He fixes his eyes on us in order to guide us and protect us.

May the Lord teach us the way in which we must go, and may his eyes be fixed on us to guide and protect us in the path of life.

Prayer: Lord, show me the right path to follow, the path of goodness and of justice. Amen.

EL CAMINO QUE DEBEMOS SEGUIR

SALMO  32

Mis ojos están puestos en ti. Yo te daré instrucciones,

te daré consejos, te enseñaré el camino que debes seguir.

Salmo 32:8

Cuántas veces, después de haber ocurrido algo inesperado, contrario a nuestros intereses, lanzamos al aire, al cielo o a Dios este grito: ¿Por qué? Cuando preguntamos: ¿Por qué Dios hizo esto? o Por qué Dios permitió que esto ocurriera?  Muchas veces se trata de preguntas para las que no precisamos una respuesta, se trata más bien de una queja contra Dios. Si realmente fuera una pregunta salida desde la profundidad de nuestra angustia, seguramente habremos de recibir una respuesta. Dios nos hará entender, y nos enseñará un camino hacia adelante.

Qué nos quiere decir el salmista con el texto de hoy cuando dice: Mis ojos están puestos en ti.  A veces pensamos que Dios está mirando desde lo alto, para ver las cosas malas que hacemos. En el lenguaje de los gestos, cuando queremos que alguien cuide de algo o de alguien, llamamos la atención de esa persona levantando el dedo índice, tocando el ojo y de allí señalando a la persona u objeto que queremos que cuide, es decir:  fijar nuestros ojos en aquello que queremos mantener en nuestro campo de visión. Así, si Dios nos hace entender y nos enseña el camino en que debemos andar; Él fija sus ojos sobre nosotros para guiarnos y protegernos.

Que el Señor nos enseñe el camino en el que debemos andar, y que sus ojos estén puestos sobre nosotros para guiarnos y protegernos en el camino de la vida.

Oración: Muéstrame Señor, el camino recto a seguir, el camino del bien, de lo justo. Amén.
