WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT

PSALM  25

And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God,

and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

John 17:3 (NRSV)

In life there are many things that are considered very important and are often placed as supreme goals, for example, wealth, fame, pride, power, etc. Also, we are often vain and don’t consider our Lord’s example of humility by being born in a manger. But much more important than all that is to know and to obey God.

The essential difference between Christians and those who are not consists in the choice of ultimate value in life. Every human being should come to know God, which is different from knowing some things about Him.

With Him, companionship is that intimate and personal relationship which leads us to be more than friends and has as its principal goal to make us sons and daughters. When we come to know God and allow ourselves to be guided by Him, our greatest pleasure is in obeying him. This obedience is not an imposition, but the logical outcome of the recognition of what he has done for us through Jesus, his only begotten son, for our salvation.

Prayer: Lord, help me to understand that what I really need is not material things. Give me wisdom to search for what is most important. Amen.

SALMO  25

 Y la vida eterna consiste en que te conozcan a ti, el único Dios verdadero, y a Jesucristo, a quien tú enviaste.

Juan 17:3

En la vida hay muchas cosas que se tienen como muy importantes y que suelen colocarse como metas supremas; por ejemplo: las riquezas, la fama, el orgullo, el poder, etc. Y también muchas veces somos vanidosos y no tenemos en cuenta el ejemplo de humildad de nuestro Señor al nacer en un pesebre. Pero mucho más importante que todo esto es conocer y obedecer a Dios.

La diferencia esencial entre los cristianos y los que no lo son consiste en la selección de ese valor supremo en la vida. Todo ser humano debe conocer a Dios, que es algo muy distinto a saber algunas cosas acerca de Él.

Con Él, la amistad es esa relación íntima y personal que nos conduce a ser más que amigos y tiene como fin principal hacernos sus hijos e hijas. Cuando llegamos a conocer a Dios y nos dejamos guiar por Él, nuestro mayor placer es obedecerle. Esta obediencia no es una imposición, sino la lógica consecuencia del reconocimiento de lo que Él ha hecho por nosotros a través de Jesús, su hijo unigénito, para nuestra salvación.

Oración: Ayúdame Señor, a comprender que lo que realmente necesito no son las cosas materiales. Dame sabiduría para buscar lo más importante. Amén.
